My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Its a trip that I've been reading about people being told two weeks for a paint job an they never tend to be on time. Well here's one more story to add to that lol. I finally got my money together to paint my 91 camaro that I paid $400 bucks for off Craigslist. I put my my car in the paint shop on 3/1/2012 an I was told it would take "2 weeks" but it is now the 20th an its still not done. I put $1000 down an during the first week all they did was strip the paint. An so for 2the weeks it sat. I really felt like taking it but it was strip to metal so I couldn't even drive it an they sure wasn't going to keep $1000 labor for doing nothing so they had me by the ball.
I don't know how to attach photos but there in my album.

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
As a bodyman myself, my advice to you would be not to rush them. As long as work is being done and the car is not just sitting, I would lay back a little bit. If you pressure them too much, corners will get cut.
The fact that they are stripping all the paint off says that they are doing the job properly, and honestly is very time consuming. The reason being is that the paint cannot just be ground off with a grinder disc, because it will gouge the metal. It needs to be sanded, with 120 ideally, and that takes a long time.
Im sure that if they continue working on it everyday, you will have the car back in no time.

Your ring I'm like a kid in a candy store. Just got new head light kit front grill .I'm ready to hit the blvd.I've been good not to bug them I've only asked about it twice in 21/2 weeks. An d when I did it was because it was sitting for afew days but other than that I've been good.I JUST WANT MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
it took me 8 months. Yeah - no kidding. I put 1/2 down, and they didn't touch it for a month, then had all the excuses in the world. I finally got it back, and there was stuff they were supposed to do and didn't. They said they would 'call me when they had the time' yeah right.

And that's what id hate to have happen. I've told them I want the calipers an drums painted, underneath painted, wheel wells, grill, interior, exhaust tips put on. I dropped the grill an exhaust off so id have a excuse to bother them, ill be up there tomorrow to look at color samples so that'll be my excuse tomorrow. They told me to come back tomorrow so its not really me this time but " what the Hec" Ill do anything to get bessy back in its proper parking space I know she misses it.

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Most body shops (ones ive worked at over the years) when they do a complete strip down and repaint they work on it in free time as most shops have other cars come in that need minor repair so they get fixed first for the fast cash then back to the big work on the strip car.. I spent 3 months rebuilding a 55 chevy truck for a shop.. and between the day i started and day i finished i had 45 cars/trucks to fix.. Im sure the shop is doing there best on getting everything done...
BTW 3 months for a full resto is flat out moving with just 1 guy doing it.. and the other cars stacked on top of that.

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
I have had mine in the shop since February for a complete paint job that was supposed to take a few weeks. It is frustrating, but I have to compete with collision work for it to get done. It seems like the same story most places.

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Good thing when my car goes in for paint, the guy says it should be done in a month, but I am not too worried as I am going to be in Japan for a year after I drop it off... Going to have one of my **** buddies go look for some imperfections, then I will do the final inspection when I get home a year later. I can't wait!
Sorry to hear about the issues you are having, but you can't rush something that takes a lot of attention to detail. It sucks they have you by the *****, all you can do is be patient. I can't wait to see how your car turns out!

Thanx bully that's what I keep telling myself " be patient you can't rush them" or something might Go wrong with it. I think I might took it alot better if they would have told me a month rather than two weeks. But then again if they would have told me a month I would have said no way.BY THE FREAKING BALLZZZZZZZZZZ

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Just bought a new headliner off ebay an bought 22" tires for bessy. But I forgot to say that I figured they would forget to paint my caliper an drums an lord to behold they didn't but you know what with all the time my car took id rather do it myself an save some money. I'm like a kid in a candy store. My house i had been renting burned down so now that the trial is over I'm enjoying myself.

When I had mine painted I was told 3-4 weeks, I think it spent 6 weeks in the paint shop. When I got it back it was worth the wait. I'm sure when you get yours back it will look great!

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Ill be honest I really didn't expect then to take all my headlights an tail lights an other things but I'm glad they did. Its hard to go from earl scheib painting your in two days to dealing with a professional shop who puts more than one coat of paint an clear. I now see the difference first hand. Earl scheib has its paint mixed paint and clear in one container I could never understand that one an then you to a real paint shop an its three coats paint an five coats clear. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I wish they had remembered to paint my brakes control arm sway bars an ext...... but hey it gives me something to wake up bright an early for on Sunday.

Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
Seriously though man, no disrespect intended but 22s? They don't work visually- it looks like a canastoga wagon from the 19th century. You might as well hook 4 oxen to the front and head off along the Chisholm Trail! I think 18s are a stretch on a 3rd gen- less is sometimes 'more'. Just cause you can put big wheels on them, doesn't mean you should. But as I said, no disrespect meant, just my opinion. Glad you are finally getting it on the road again... Just don't forget the stepladder so you can get in! Sorry, sorry, I couldn't help myself...

I'm sure there's a rim section for you to express your thought. In la we cruise for fun maybe you guys hating may tip cows in your spare time. Howdy. Los Angeles CA gotta love the weather an bikinis an palm tress oh yeah it was 78 degrees today. So if the sun shines in your city 340 days a year then have your rims shine.
Re: My long awaited debut, car almost out the pait shop
I like in Orange County, near the beach, so I am familiar with the weather...! No cows around me either...a few cars on 22s that I think I could tip over though!

alot of guys put big rims on there cars. i guess its the "hippidy hop" or "straight gangsta". i could never understand it,so im not gonna rip on you about it. though i think if any car should be represented in the gangster fashion, it shouldnt be a 3rdgen. but so long as your new paint job doesnt have all the silly graphics or HUGE metalic flakes in the paint, maby it will look good

that looks pretty good. does that have a slight gold tint to it? and if you wanna clean up that hood/bumper gap, all you do is loosen the two nuts on the headlight header panel where the latch assymbly bolts to and move it up and tighten back down.

Lmao let me tell its really funny "today" but I was cleaning out my trunk when I seen this dude trying to park so in doing so I notices I had left my drivers door on an went an closed it an yell to him your OK. So I went back to the trunk to finsh cleaning it an as soon as I put my head down I heard a cracking sound then my whole car shook so I looked up an my heart dropped. The stupid azz kept trying to back up so I started banging on the freakin window almost breaking it for him to stop.so once he did stop his rear fender had dug in my car then it grinder into his rim an the did all the damage. If you look in the picture that WHITE CHEVY Yukon DID IT. I really wanted to pour brake fluid all on his car but he ended up paying for it.600 bucks

I didn't think I would like the 22's either, but they actually look good on that car. They fill the wheel wells without looking tacky. I wouldn't go that big because I can't afford the tires...LOL!!! But those do look good.

thanx gsx dont get me wrong i dont like cars with truck tires on it believe me. but certain 22's look ggod on camaros. me personally only tthink irocs belong on a iroc but to each his own. But if you really think about it all 22's are ar more rim an less tire. with stock rims its more tire and less rim so it does change the ride hight that much.
