Doors hard to shut

Hey guys, quick question. I am having a hard time getting my doors to close. I have to kind of lift them up just a touch to get them to close. My hinges and pins and bushings seem to be tight. My paint guy looked it over and said that I needed new strikes. He said the strikes should have a plastic bushing on them to help the doors close. I have no idea as to what is going on. I can not find any at Advance auto or Oreillys that fit my car.
Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks!!!!

My door strikers are bare metal, no plastic. Did you take your doors off for paint? There is a door alignment tool that is supposed to take care of situations like yours.

What kind of tool is it and where can I find one? I am sure the doors have ben taken off at some point because the car has been repainted. It isn't a big deal, but I have seen other Gen3's that you just barely have to pushe the doors to get them to latch.

Re: Doors hard to shut

I replaced my door hinge bushings and had same issue as you when putting doors back on. I tried the door alignment tool but it didn't seem to do too much. Here is a link. One end goes on door striker, other in door latch. You then use a socket wrench to lower or raise door at hinge. Maybe it is for slight adjustments, not what I experienced.

I got my door to open smoothly by this method. Slightly loosen up all door hinge bolts so door is free to pivot on the bolts. Take a piece of cardboard from a box top and fold it in half. Open door and place folded up cardboard on door sill near rear of door. While closing door, lift it up onto striker so you are setting door on cardboard. While keeping door closed, progressively tighten hinge bolts. Then open door and remove cardboard. Worth a try before you spend some money on the alignment tool.
