Moisture buildup and cupholders

Have some commmon, and I hope easily answered questions. First, I have a 92 bird and the cupholders on the bottom of the door panel are loose, and the drivers side has already fallen completely off. Is there any way to tighten them, or stop this from occuring? I don't know how, but moisture has built up on the inside of the speedo/rpm etc. and this nasty white stuff has formed on the plastic. How can I get rid of this and keep it from occurring again? Waiting for any reply, because the local Pontiac dealer is ridiculously high when it comes to repairs.

It sounds like either the plastic inserts in the door itself are stripped or the bolt holes on the cupholders are broken. You can still get new cupholders from GM in some colors. If your dealer can't get them let me know-my dealer can. As for the gauge, take it apart and clean it is all I can think of.

how do i get to the back of those things? do i need to take off the dash? After I clean them, do I need to replace the seals around them?

First remove the knee pad below the steering column. Then lower the steering column itself carefully. Now remove the trim panel above the A/C-radio pod. With these things out of the way you will see all the screws to remove the gauge trim panel. Remove the panel. There will be 3-4 along the bottom and 3-4 along the top along the lower edge of the dash pad. Now to remove the gauge cluster just remove the screws(should be 8)and the cluster pulls out easily. Take a phillips screwdriver and remove the clear cover and clean it. After that, put it all back together in reverse of how you took it apart.
