does the front subframe unbolt like older cars?
I T-boned a 93 240 last week(damned nissans\) anyhow, His insurance is covering my car(not sure how much though) everthing from doors back is perfect, but fenders, hood, bumper all screwed. the frame is crumpled too. i was wondering if the subframe from firewall (or even strut towers)forward ubolts like older cars, or if(being the car is unibody) I need to buy a donor chassis. this thing is WAY too crushed to be pulled. thanks

Mike,
the 3rd gens are unibodys. You shure it wasn't a prime rib ?
serious tho. if it was a fairly good square hit,,,the underlying damage might not be as bad as you think,, unless you've already stripped the fenders and front to see the real damage (?) I had a similar accident with my firebird. the damage on the outside was pretty bad looking but after getting the metal away from the car the frame wasn't all that bad. I asked about it at the frame shop and the guy there said that in minor frame damage such as mine (I swore I needed new radiator support) that pulling it is always better than cutting and welding parts back on because it weakens the strusture of the car and they still have to be tugged and pulled on after replacing parts. He said most of the time they will only do that in extreme cases,,,like if the motor is pressing thru the firewall. From the sounds of it,,the damage is mostly facial since the doors are fine (and operate fine still as well??). Thew hit I had was probably just under 30mph . Granted it was a few years back,,the estimate I got was for totaling the car since it exceeded $3700 (labor isn't cheap I guess). I estimated the parts/paint not costing over $1600,,, I guess they just wanted my car,,,but they didn't get it
. Anyhow,, if there's someway,,is it still driveable ?,, to take it to a reputable frame shop and ask them what they think of it,,, it might turn out to be less of an injury than you think. Hope that helped. Best of luck with the insurance co. and getting your ride fixed
btw,,I got a nice check after my neck 'started to hurt'
,, the formy got a nice set of gfx & gta rims after that

My 91 was hit from behind and it had t-tops. I could not beleive how it crumpled up like a tin can. I think if it would of been a hard top it would have been in better shape.
Good luck!
