New Paint?

Hey guys, I was wondering what you think. I'm definitely getting a new paintjob, but here's what i'm still deciding, should I attempt it myself? If i did this, it would take a while, i'd do everything right as taking everything apart, with the help of my moms fiance. I would redo the engine bay and all. But this would in fact be the first time i did any painting. Besides small time projects. Like repainting a bike frame and that good stuff.
Or should i save up, and fork out the cash for a proffesional?

For the record, i have no idea what the whole prosegure (definitely spelled wrong) is like all i know, is sand, prime, paint and not sure what comes after that....

My moms fiance just insists i do it all myself so yeah. Thanks

This may not answer all your questions but it will give you some idea of what the process looks like.=

Re: New Paint?

You don't want your first paint job to be on your car....I wouldn't have wanted my 10th paint job on my car. Use the search function, read the threads, do your homework, take a class, talk to an old guy, but whatever you do, practice on something other than your car. If your apprehensive at all, pay the professionals.

Re: New Paint?

^^^This man speaks the truth.

Problem with wanting to paint is it's a catch-22; you don't want thr car you care about to be the butt of your learning, but you also don't really want to sink good money into something you don't care about for practice.

$1500-$2000 should get you a plenty respectable scuff 'n spray.

Kandy colors are in no way for beginners, practice on a hood and go from there
