Custom Interior......
I am starting to redo the interior of my 86. I am going to use the interior panels from my 88 TBI, they don't have any carpet on them. What I was thinking of doing is getting the pannels cleaned up sanded and painted a custom color. Maybe in the Chrome Illusion paint I got on the outside of my car. What kind of base would I need to get the paint to stick to the plastic? My car is only going to seat 2 Roll bar is in the way of the back. I was also going to purchase the Evolution I interior kit to redo the front dash and so on. Also going to paint that maybe the same color Except for the top I got something special for that.
What kind of Paint does anyone recommend for a good base to get other paint to stick or just a really good paint period for the whole interior panels. All the panels from the Dash back are being replaced and painted.

I tried the paint route and it didn't hold up to well. Best bet is to talk to a body shop. Most important thing is how you prep it and what you put on it to get the paint to stick to the plastic. I have been told ammonia is the best way to strip the Armorall (sp) off.

Well I would be using all the interior trim from my 88 TBI Camaro. THey are uncarpeted and need to be cleaned and they would look good, but i want to change the color to black or something else, the panels are grey now.
hey, i'm going to be doing the same thing on my firebird. i'm just wondering what color to paint mine (interior is tan) and what base/paint to use. if anyone has does this kinda work plz reply. tia

I know they sell special paint that sticks to plastic for a basecoat. After that I was thinking of going crazy and doing something all custom from the front to the back. I'm Not sure though what I want to. But I need something different.

Im painting all the panels black on my 88 GTA, I was gonna get all new ones but Im broke
, and NEED a new look on the interior. I found vinyl die spray paint by VHT, Ive used VHT "black out" paint on my side markers and what not on my 97 Monte and it worked well plus everything else I bought from VHT worked just as they said so I hope it works well. They dont really have any crazy colors or anything, but look up on Summit.com for the full list of colors they offer, do a search for VHT dye on the parts search. Ill hopefully post some pics when Im done. Also will be "blacking out" the side markers on the GTA, just bought it, man it feels nice to own a Fbody again... A whole bunch of ideas and no money, time to do some thinkin, in the futue, the best paint MAACO can do,lol

When you're prepping the interior plastic you need to sand it down and use the special interior paint. I dont have any websites offhand but if you search google.com I'm sure you'll find something. When I was thinking about doing this to my truck I found a company that had special interior paint but the website was in german! doh! Anyway, here is what I plan on doing with my project 91 z28 interior:
New black carpet
New black headliner
6 point rollcage (black)
K1 Evo Interior - (Black)
- just dash and center console
- carbon fiber accents
4th Gen Camaro Door Moldings (Black)
- window switches on door
- carbon fiber accents
- 5 and 1/4 component speakers in door
Custom guage cluster (carbon fiber overlay)
- all whitefaced Autometer guages
Momo Apache Steeringwheel (Black)
Momo Cobra Shiftknob (carbon fiber)
Momo Performance shift boot
Momo Pitstop Carbon Fiber Handbrake
Sparco Torino Seats (Pending mounting brackets)
- 4 point clubman harness
Rear leather 4th gen seats
Then in the rear hatch area I'm going to be making a custom fiberglass overlay that will extend from the back of the rear seats to the back of the car. I'm gonna be removing all the plastic pieces in the rear (where the space is, ect). Already bought the Q-Form dual 12" sub enclosure for the rear. Gonna mold the fiberglass to make the amp rack display behind the rear seats and then mold around the subs.
For the sounds I will be running the Kenwood KDC-X959 MP3 deck with the amp sensors (to monitor amp temp). Amps will be 3 Rockford power series, one 4 channel for the high's and a single amp for each sub. High's will be Boston Pro 5 and 1/4 component set in the doors and 6" Pro component set in the stock 6x9 location (with adapter plate). Subs will be the JL Audio 12w6's. I'm not sure if I'll be dynomatting, but if needed it will be done.
I will also be running a 6.5" LCD screen in the console attached to a pen sized camera mounted in the rear bumper. This will serve as my rear view mirror.

Mayhem I am seriously going to do womething with that in the interior. I got the 18" hatchetman in red on the back window already. I was thinking of putting a hatchet man on each of the sail panels in the back. And when I get my seats I wanna get Twiztid stitched into the head rests. Since i am not going to have backseats and I really wanna go crazy and put like a 3 grand system into the car desiging a plexiglass enclosure for where the back seats are and with some more hatchet men back there with some red neons. As i peice everything together my mind will be working a lil better. Oh did you know violent J has a C5 vette? I wanna know if he is selling it i'll but it off him. that be pretty cool. On my 88 TBI i'm having that repainted all black with a hatchetman on each side in the front quarter panel on fire with the flames going back to the door on the car. Its gonna look pretty fin cool.

Remember don't paint the top of the dash in a gloss, you will be blinded and it will reflect into the windshield obstructing your vision.
