I'm thinking of buying the "MacEwen Motorsports" white faced gauge overlays.
Anyone have them; do u like them or dislike them?
I'm also planing on buying there bulbs at the same time; anyone have them, do u like them?
I also want to know if i buy, the bulbs will they also replace the bulbs in the gear indicator, a/c & heater controls, defrost indicator, etc.
If they do i'll get them in either the "Xenon white" or red.
Any suggestions?
My buddy Tim bought some white faced overlay gauges from them and he has had nothing but problems w/ them; just kidding!!!!!!!!! He loves them to death and it really shows off his interior when he drops the top on his confertible. They look awesome but he didn't get the different colored bulbs though.
You can get those colored bulbs for any lighted accessory in your interior so I say go for it. Personally I would go w/ the xenon blue color but that's my opinion. After I get my system squared away I want to get those gauges overlays.
Also my friend Tim said that they have the easiest installation prcedures and are made to go on very easy. Hope this helps.
i have an 88 firebird, and i have Macewens white overlays in them. I also bought the bulbs from him. The gauges are fantastic, and the installation is even easier than i expected. I bought his extra bright bulbs as well, but homestly, havnt needed them at all! I barely notice the differnce in the firebirds, but i know the camaros light up completely differently. BUT, to answer your question, the quality id awesome, and it makes the inside look AWESOME. Ive gotten nothing BUT compliments on them.

If any of you have friends who just buoght a whiteface gauge kit. Borrow it from them and take it to kinkos'. They can scan it and give you a nice shiny new vinyl overlay for about 20 bucks. Then give your friends back to him and watch his face turn red as you tell him you paid twenty bucks for what he paid 140 for.

140? Mine were $55. Regular price is still only about 10 bucks higher. And they are silk-screened, so I'm guessing that they are going to be considerably more fade resistant than anything that Kinkos can do. Don't forget that what you're paying for other than just materials is developmental and production costs. Ryan gave in to our constant begging and was nice enough to go through the work to develop and manufacture these overlays for us, and he's providing them at a good price. Don't be a ***** and undermine his hard work by running to Kinkos.
To answer the original question, all of the heater control and other bulbs are all the same 194 bulbs that are behind the gauges. In my firebird I converted them all to red, and in my IROC I did the same. The firebird's orange glow around the gauges comes from the neon orange paint on the back side of the black trim panel over the gauges. When I swapped the red bulbs into my IROC, I painted the black trim panel the same orange, instead of leaving it blue.

Thanks guys, i knew u would give me some good input!
I'm definetly going to get them now.
So if i buy there bulbs i would be able to change the gear indicator, fog light indicator, defrost indicator, etc. colors with those bulbs?
I'm bot sure if i want the red or "xenon".
Please post some pics (especially the red), thanks guys!
Myself and others have taken pics of the red at night, and it doesn't come out at all. They look REAL good. The whole gauge glows red.

I just saw the white gauges on the website address that was given above and they kick *** ! I've been waiting for someone to come out with them. I just wish I had my credit card on me so I could order a kit NOW!

Here is the funniest part, you don't need credit card, simply e-mail to Ryan and let him give you his bank info. and you can wire the money (via internet?) to his bank.. (thats pretty common way to cash here in Finland)
On one of those DIY truck repair/mod t.v. shows this weekend, they installed some of these on a Dodge Dakota. It looked AWESOME when they got done.
They used a little plastic "forked" tool to remove the gauge needles prior to installing the new overlays but didn't say where to get one. Does anyone know if these are available to the general public? Also, can the needles on 3rdgens be removed in this fashion without breaking them?
Either way, I'm definitely doing this mod in the near future.
Macewen's gauge overlays can be installed without removing the needles. Installation is pretty simple, although I'd suggest removing the cluster and doing it on a work bench. That way you can turn them any way you like to ensure that the overlays are lined up correctly.

Jim I dont know what year bird you have or had but my Pontiac orange has nothing to do with any paint whatsoever. My 194's have these little bulb "condoms" on them to get the orange glow. Actually I would like to know where I could get some blue condoms for the bulbs so the dash is blue instead of orange. And actually all the bulbs arent 194's some of them are much smaller. Like in my friends 92 RS there are these tiny bulbs for his blinker indicators and I have some in my heater control too.

Scooter, my 86 firebird had white 194s with no condoms. My orange glow was a result of the orange paint on the backside of the trim. I don't know of any places that sell the condoms, which makes sense because those were way too good of an idea. I do know of places that sell blue 194s though.

Yeah, there were a gp at the end of the last year, at least last overlays shipped to people by the end of the year.. Ryan had some difficulties shipping those due to move to another place..
if you dont change the bulbs, what color are they at night? Does it kinda look like they glow in the dark? My brother has real white guage faces (not overlays) and at night they look bad a**, just wondering if they will look the same
thanks

i was the one who organized the GP last month. mine look incredible and i have had ZERO complaints. ryan was prompt and efficient with delivery. He said it was the best GP he had ever done. His gauges are on average 70 dollars. the bulbs he sells are just brighter or of color. They ARE recommended but not necessary. Depending on your year/ color of numbers the color will be different. I have yellow numbers and blue bulbs so it comes out greenish. it looks tight. Very easy install. High quality.

I know this is an old Post, but I am going to order a set from WhiteGauge.net. I would assume they have made improvements in their design over the last 15 years. They also offer 30+ colors. You can check out how it would look with the colors with a site to show how it looks on a generic dash. I might get the Metallic Silver as that looks really high tech also. Very good instructions on a set of pictures on how to install them. Plus they also have LED's in 4 colors.
Can anyone get me a picture of how they look INSTALLED? All the replies on here are old and I cannot get their photos to come up.

Just to show how mine came out (from whitegauges.net). Did it about a month ago. Really easy install once you get the cluster out of the dash. The 'security' and 'brake' lights on the tach didn't line up 100% but is a non-issue since your car won't have those lights on when it's running anyway.
