All stock IROCs had the same nose. GM used 3 different noses throughout the years with ground effects packages. The 82-84 style nose, the 85-90 style nose, and the 91-92 style nose.

Well actually it was more then 3. In 83-84 they had the nose with the 3 tall slits in the middle. In 85 the sport coupe got the nose with longer and thinner slits.

Then how is it the 85 IROC (yellow) looks like the nose is not as tall as the 88 IROC (red)

Looks like a custom grill of something to me on the one on the right. I like it though!

looks the same to me. And the red one if it is lower is maybe because the springs are worn out.

I think it's just a trick your eye's playing on you. Between the 88 being slanted, having a different paint (metallic paint being the key) and different stripes it just has the appearance of looking different, but most likely if both had primed noses, they'd look exactly the same.

Measure the grille.Red one looks like it's taller than the other.

Re-read my original post. There where 3 different styles with the ground effects. The cars without ground effects also had unique noses that changed throughout the years, but that wasn't the focus of my post.

well, either the yellow IROCs nose is aftermarket or just different or my car has the same aftermarket nose as the red one. The bottom of the grill opening is below the bottom stripe on my car just like the red 88. The yellow 85s grill opening is definitly not as large as the 88s. Somebody with a 85 go check their grill. See if they changed.

Shadowing is the trick on the eye.
Stare close enough and the red opening will shrink when you see some of the 'black' of the opening is really the red of the car,,only very dark because of the light(probably angle too,, like one car looks wider than the other)
From 85-90 the valance panel (gfx piece) was the same for Z-28 & IROC-Z and the nose cover itself was the same from 85-92 only using different valance panels(85-90/91-92) and grille inserts to make them look different.

The white does not show shadows making the black grille look smaller against the white color.

The black IROC on the right has a 91-92 style grill. That grill is the EXACT same size as the grill on my 85. They are all the same.
