Tail light housing

i have done some searching about separating the tail light housing, but i have a a few probably stupid questions but if i can save myself from buying a new tail light from ebay. although hawks does have a new set i would really like but cant spend 350 dollars on

i have a set of taillight housings from my old 84 trans am with all the mounting pillars ( im not to sure what you call them but you screw the nut to them) and when i got a new to me 86 trans am it had the grid style which i like better, but i only have the passenger side. their is a driver side at a local junk yard for 25 dollars but has a few broken mounting pillars on it. so my question is can i swap the lenses so i can have all the mounting pillars?

Re: Tail light housing

If the 2 lights are what I think your referring to? Then no. The bulbs behind the lenses are arranged totally different as well as different wiring. You could adapt the older wiring to the newer lights though.

Re: Tail light housing

Those are what I thought they were & the bulb arrangements inside are different. You can swap the entire lights & rewire the wiring, but not just the lens to the other housing.
