Opinions, please

Ok. Here's the scenario. I got a 86 Sport Coupe I'm fixin up. (Please, no one say get an 8, cuz I just sunk a grand into the tranny.) Here's what I'm planning on doin:

Original paint colors (red w/ silver on bottom)
Gray interior from RS, Z, or IROC to upgrade the present SC interior
IROC grid pattern tail lights

Other ideas I'm toyin w/:
Z or IROC steering wheel (no airbag)
IROC hood

Anyone think I should put gfx on it?
Thanks for input.

Are you going to do a paint job or does it not need one. If so, IMO, a solid colored car always looked better than multi colored. But it is your car, so it's up to you.

I would. It would go with the Iroc hood better and just look more aggressive overall.Personally,I never too much cared for the camaros without the gfx.

Something I should have mentioned. Since the car is an 86, there are a lot of unique things for that year. Number one, the break light on the hatch. Two, the blck light pockets and mirrors. Three, the TWO stripes around the car where the two colors meet. Yes, I do want to make this car my own, but I would also like to preserve some originality.

As for GFX, I think combined with the IROC hood and lights, they would make the car a "wanna-be Z". You gotta remember its only a 6!

Who cares if it's not a "real" Z. Do you know where hot rodding came from? Make it look good, and run well. Deffinately get the GFX, but I'd go with the RS type. I like the vents. I want them for my T/A. Another thing, I've got the regular firebird hood instead of the T/A hood because I like it. My car may be faster than yours, but if yours looks better, that's cool too. As long as your happy with it.

Ground effects are what I think defines the 3rd gen.. I know people could oppose this view of mine, but I'd make the assumption that 90% of the people who think of a camaro see it with ground effects so That's my 2 cents.. But It's up to the owner to do what they like because they are driving it.. ya know?

i.m.o., the ground effects on a 3rd gen are what most people think see when they think of a 3rd gen, and I do too. but for me since i am really into street rodding type of styles, i think the best looking 3rd gen i could possible see would be without Ground FX and slammed all the way the asphaulttt!
it would be shaved of all handles and unneed crevices and have bags, sittin on big fat rollers, and i wanna build the first body dropped (channeled) F-body.
Hopefully I'll build a mid-80s base firebird like this whenever i finish my daily driver truck.

You can't "channel" a thirdgen in the true sense of the word because it's a unibody. In fact, I doubt you could do any type of body drop because of that.

You can body drop a unibody car
I don't know if i would feel safe in it after that or not. It is a new trend the ricers are doing with thier cars. All you do is cut out the floor pan and move it up.

Mike-
I was in the same boat you were, only mine has the V8 (i know my name says Z, so sue me, I was dumb when I made the name) Anyway, i have the 86 SC, only it's been tweaked a bit, the hatch was replaced with one from a different year so I added the 87-90 style CHMSL 3 piece spoiler, i was gonna go for gfx, ss hood and z28 wing, but thenI realized I was too short on the cash, so I just swapped to the new spoiler and left the body the same. I just got it back from the paint shop, I'll post pics next week once they're developed. I kinda like the no gfx look, but they do look awesome, especially the 91-92 style. I'll have to agree with eatmydust, the solid color looks better with the gfx, and get the stock style striping around it. Another bennefit of the solid color is that if you want racing stripes it won't look too cluttered. With the color on the bottom it kinda steals the stripes thunder. But as Dennis Miller says, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
