help! removed and reinstalled heater controls.. not working..

hey guys..

my heater controls seized up while my car was sitting during my engine rebuild. actually, it was just the hot/cold slider cable, so i removed the heater controls so i could lube up the cable and clean up the controls and put new grease on the moving parts.

when i put them in, i only get defrost on a medium-hot heat setting... i can change the speed of the blower motor with the ****, but i am not able to change the vents or hot/cold..

will i be ok and just need time for the vacuum to build up? thanks

Colin

This might be a no-brainer, but it sounds like you've got something binding up after working in that area. Take off the cover plate and have a look-see as you try to slide the controls back and forth. It might help to take your stereo out because it will give you alot more access to it. The fact that all of your air vents are not opening is not a vacuum problem. As long as it's coming out one of the vents, whether it be defrost, heat, or whatever, indicates it's not a lack of vacuum. You may have pinched a vacuum line back in there, but I doubt it. I would first check out the problem with your temp, as far as that cable goes, and then go after the vacuum problem. Most likely that in itself is a bad switch, or you have a bad connection of that vacuum manifold to the switch, or even a vacuum leak.

You may not be able to tell if its working 100% until you have the engine running.

thanks for the replies guys..

i haven't put everything back together yet, luckily.. i have another switch assembly, maybe i'll try that one out and see how it works.

boy, i'm glad i never put it all back together and the console on first.. i'd be pissed, lol...

i sure hope there isn't something wrong with my heater door, it seized up for no reason when my car sat for 6 months i'll play with it some more today and see what's up.. thanks again
