92 Front License Plate Question

I have a stock 92 RS Camaro with a front license plate (Washington State). It has a bracket that came from either the factor or dealer and fits up through the horizontal fins in the stock grill so looks like it is GM all the way and not aftermarket. I am going to change to a stock fog light grill so I can add stock fog lights. It appears that there are only two fog light grills available, a "camaro" lettered one and a "Red Bowtie) one.

I need to buy the fog light grill so before I do, I need to ask these questions. Does anyone know if my stock license plate bracket will simply bolt (screw) onto either of the two fog light grills? Will it cover the word "camaro" completely on the one or should it be the red bowtie grill that looks like the bowtie would be covered completely by the plate on the other? Did the RS ever have the fog light option and if so, what grill did it use?

Thanks...

Don't put holes in the new grille piece. Make up a L-bracket Hidden License Plate holder.

Re: 92 Front License Plate Question

I was wondering how the factory/dealer mounted the plate when the fog light option was installed and which grill they used.

Re: 92 Front License Plate Question

If you decide to mount it in a more traditional spot than you can slide the L brackets or in my case plumbers tape.(that is flexible and highly recommended)between the bumper cover and the insert.I mounted mine top and bottom on the plate first than slid the flexible/bendable plumbers tape through the thin crack between the bumper cover and insert top and bottom and mounted to on the other side.True it covers a beautiful red bow-tie but the cops are off my back.

Re: 92 Front License Plate Question

Red bow tie grill was for '91 '92 Z28s, Camaro white lettering grill was for 85-90 Z28 / Iroc-Z28 and yeah when you drill the 2 holes on the grill to mount the plate it covers whatever it says or shows bow tie or letters, just look at mine, That whole white square you see is The Actual License Plate & not a white bar to conceal the plate. I didnt have a choice however because when I bought my '92 the original grill already had the 2 holes drilled for the plate, I think the previous owner did them, but I believe an alternative to having the plate in the grill is to display it on the dash in the front windshield, I think I'll do that, just make sure it doesn't fly off at hi speeds, could use a lil piece of tape so it stays on the left or right side of the dash.

At least here in CA I've heard, cops just wanna see both plates physically on the car. But don't Quote me, it really depends of the cop wants to be nasty about it or if he wants to be a nice guy.

Re: 92 Front License Plate Question

Here in Washington, law enforcement is now using cameras mounted on the trunk lids of patrol cars that automatically read (and run) license plate numbers of cars going by in either direction and in lanes next to them.... The camera picks up a picture of the plate, then processes the image to get the plate number.. All they have to do is drive by and the get everything they need to know about the car automatically.. Great if your car has been stolen..
