Shaving Questions?
I've already searched the boards but still haven't found the answers.
I've got power locks on my '84Z can I just use them to open the door latch as well?
Scauffiel has some great instructions on his website but he used the kit.
I'm thinking, why can't I just get the electronics from Radio Shack for the remotes, run wire from my power lock to the door latch, and just install the door popers for about $6.00 each. Would this work?

Give it a shot brother! At $6 it surely can't hurt the wallet. It sounds like it would work, but then again a LOT of things sound like they should work...

chances are the door lock actuator wont be strong enuff.get a pair of hatch actuators from a late model s10 blazer from what ive heard threyre real strong a buddy of mine has them in his 80s model crewcab chev truck in fact he has no inner door handles either(my idea)every door has 2 window switches 1 is for the window the other is to open the door the drivers door has 2 window switch blocks of 4 switches 1 block is windows the other is doors that way he can open all 4 doors from his seat(that door has a BUNCH of wires in it)i shaved all the handles keys marker lites tail lites tailgate and custom hand made roll pan with bowties for tail/brakelites.i helped with the wiring, custom interior hand made billit phantom grille(they werent comercially available when we built the truck)wow ive gotten way off the subject sorry anyway make sure you can unlock the doors cuz there wont be any handles anymore check out the post about broken handles i got faily in depth about fail safes for shaved handles(dead battery etc)any more ??? ill be around

You would need to relocate the power door lock actuators to pull them the way they are supposed to, but that is the way I plan on doing it. Actuators and solenoids do about the same thing.

for one.. a lock actuator pulls or pushes.. not pulls and releases. thus your door would have to have 2 buttons for lock/unlock to be open/close.. 2 our doors are extremely heavy... thus the trunk solenoid idea isnt a good one either cuz it will burn up by trying to move those latches over time. the only way i would recommend doing it is to do it the right way with 35lb poppers or larger.. I personally used 35lb's on mine and they work great.
The ony reason i say this is that its best to do it right the first time than to have to do it over and over and over and over.. especially when your caught in a rainstorm and your door wont open cause your actuator/popper burned up.

the hatch release actuator in the s blazer is very strong maybe not 35lbs but definately strong enuff.alot cheaper too,you can get those at an auto recycler(politicly correct name, theyre still junkyards tho)i do agree with purple 92 ss,the blazer way is just cheaper.bsides when my buddy called to order his actuators(the big xpensive ones)the place he called was sold out and they recommended the blazer actuators.its a daily driver with no inner handles either so his have been doin double duty for about 4-5 yrs.they do hold up.make sure to buy the poppers too to push the door open.

I want those suckers to POP and work the first time
hehe.. also when you install them make sure that they pull down, the straightest and shortest route will ensure easier popping of the door-steve
