Buying a beater while working on my Trans Am

Do you guys think it would be smart to buy a $4-500 beater to use during the winter months while I work on my trans am? I just think it might save more money on gas and insurance that I could put towards the car rather than fix her up while daily driving her.

Yeah, but then you are driving a beater instead of your GTA. I have always found more motivation to work on the car I am driving then one that's a project.

I completely agree except I see no other choice due to the fact that I won't be able to drive to work or anywhere while it's in the shop getting painted and getting other big stuff done to it.

Buy the beater shouldn't have the good car on the road in Canadian winter.

Buy the beater. It's called such for a very good reason. I purchased a 1996 4cyl 5speed Geo Metro that gets 40mpg(and runs flawlessly, A/C and everything works) and if I only had pictures of when I bought it and how it looks now, it has taken quite a beating from parking lots. Best thing is it really doesn't bother me so much when I find new dings or paint scratches like it would if it was my Firebird.

There's a problem with this, if you are like me you end up fixing up the beater and then it's a shame to drive it in shitty weather so you need a new beater...

He lives in Vancouver, BC. The winter there is not that harsh, mostly just rain. Basically the same weather as I get here in Seattle.

If your restoring your GTA maybe you would be better off buying a DD in good shape, because your not going to want to use the GTA when it's finished as a DD anyway!!!
