Flame Red Metallic close to Red Jewel Tintcoat / KAndy Apple

Couple of real quick questions:

1. Is Flame Red Metallic a BC/CC - cant really find any information on it.

2. Ive never seen it in person so I want to know, for those that have it, or have gotten up close and personal with it, how close to Red Jewel Tintcoat or Kandy Apple is it? Images online seem to look pretty close, but you know how that goes.

Id love to shoot HOK, but 12 coats and $2k in materials is kind of a killer. Also I plan on driving my car and having to repair HOK every time a rock chips my car is not going to be fun or cost effective.

To those that have shot any of the above materials they used would be very helpful.

Now that you mention it, I think Flame Red might be kinda close to Red Jewel...can't remember the last time I saw a Flame Red car in person though. I want to say that Flame Red has a bit more brown in it than Red Jewel.

Personally, if you like dark red metallics, I'd strongly consider Monterey Red...it's my favorite of all the late model GM dark reds. You can see it here. http://www.buyavette.net/2007%20Corv...ock%204037.php

HOK candy is a differant color depending on what top coat you spray it over, they make a spray board so you can see all the differant shades. No stock color will have that candy color since they are not translucent.

The Dark Red Metallic or Flame Red for Pontiac owners does have some brown to it. In certain lighting, the car could look horrible where I think the red jewel tintcoat uses a red base. Here's a couple pics with indirect sun light and also on a bright sunny day.

And a shot I took when I was preparing to buff the swirls out.

Great example under differant lighting affects, that color looks so dark at night yet jumps right to life in the sun.

It's more of a maroon with exaggerated red/orange hue than a candy apple color. Here's some photos of my Flame Red GTA in bright sunlight:

And an '87 T/A that I had, also direct sunlight:

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the look of it in different shades. I think Ill be going with red jewel. Its got that dark red look in cloudy conditions and a near candy, since its a tri coat, during bright days. Also about $1k-$2k less than the HOK.

Good luck man! Be sure to post a link to the paint thread so we can follow along. I'm looking forward to the progress.
