Another Rattle Question

I can hear a rattling noise behind the document holder on the passenger side of the dash. It pretty much rattles all the time, but is louder when it is cold inside the car. When you push down on the dashpad on the passenger side, it stops. I have removed the dash pad and driven it a little without it on and it still rattles, so it is nothing with the pad. While I had it off, i tightened down every screw I could find, but the rattle is still there. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I suspect the computer bracket was installed incorrectly. If the probe that sticks out of the case isn't mounted in the rubber socket above correctly it will rattle and move around.

What do you have to take apart to get to the computer to see if this is the problem?

Simple. 7mm or 5/16 socket. Recline the passenger seat all the way back and lay in it with your head on the floor of the passenger side. Remove three screws holding the hush panel (black plastic panel underneath the bottom of the dash) in place. You should see a white plastic case surrounding the aluminum box which contains the ECM. Wiggle it to see if it is indeed causing the noise. If it is, remove the screws holding it in place and drop it down. There is a probe sticking out of it that must be mounted into a rubber lined hole above. It is a pain to get it in there sometimes. Good luck, Lon.

Just a thought, try making sure it is not just the ducts for the side window defroster vents. They were kinda loose on mine and did what you describe. I just shoved some wedges of rubber in the top of them and they have been silent since.
