Repaint.......prepping my thirdgen
I have a 92 bird that needs some paint and bodywork done. I have 2 new fenders and a formula hood plus and all the tools to do the paint and prep work myself. the bumper needs work and the dent and rust repaired. Other than that I want your opinion on some things........

(Im gonna have the bodyshop fix these)
This is the paint im using. http://www.expresspaint.com/automoti...ic-21p6325.htm
How many quarts of paint does it take?
The clear coat. http://www.expresspaint.com/automoti...rts-2p2176.htm
For the most part the paint is decent. Can I sand down to the primer and reprime? Or can I go just as deep as the basecoat?
Thanks for your opinions and help.

Re: Repaint.......prepping my thirdgen
Wow a single quart is $115, that's higher than some pretty high-end and well known paint. I take it that this is some kind of aerosol can method. I'm not saying it won't work, but it will surely be expensive.
My recommendation would be to do all the prep work yourself and find a shop or someone that will rent to you the equipment or spray it for you for a much smaller than normal fee. A really good place to possibly meet someone like this would be your local PPG or other paint shop. Talk to the the people that work there and also hang out and BS with them, you'll meet painters that do this every day and for a living.
If you're going to paint it yourself and this is your first time using this method, then I suggest taking the money that you would have spent on the paint and learn by trial and error using regular liquid paint and an air gun. I think it'll be cheaper and better looking in the end. Start by painting and stripping a single panel until you can do it right the first time. I plan to practice on my project truck by using this very technique. Some people go buy a hood from the local junk yard and practice on that.

This is no aerosol can method. Im doing the prep work and paint myself except for what is in the pictures i provided. I did some more digging and found the same paint for 80 a quart. but how much does it take to do a whole car?

Ok, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I hadn't heard of that paint company before and when I did some Googling, the results made it look like they provided a spray can type product so I thought that was how you would be applying it. As for how much, I couldn't tell you for sure. From looking around I've seen anything from 2 to 6 quarts. Now I really doubt it will take 6 quarts, but I doubt that two would really be enough especially if you want multiple coats of base and you paint all the GFX parts separately.

Re: Repaint.......prepping my thirdgen
wait! too many factors effect the final color, and it's next to impossible to paint all of these parts and make it all match in the end, ESPECIALLY metallic paint

Re: Repaint.......prepping my thirdgen
oh yes. Prime and prep them, but you might want to be careful about how long you can wait to spray them with real paint before the adhesion of the primer lowers. you'll probably want to respray them with a primer or sealer right before you put the paint on. At least one coat
