Convertable troubles

Anyone out there know how to fix my tonnou release button located between the 2 window buttons? It's never worked since I've had the car and if the switch is pushed more than 3 times it blows the fuse (Doorlocks, windows, interior lighting) My cigarette lighter does the same thing

Your release button is between the window switches? Mine isn't there, its on the tonneau cover part.

Mine is on the cover also you could try putting a bigger fuse in place. Or look to see if some thing is shorting out.

Hey take out check out your cigerette lighter, its probably what is shorting out you stuff, Mine did the same thing when i got it, I think you can test it buy take out your lighter and driving around with out for a while. and Keep using your buttons. I think that should work. That a pretty common things in our camaro and firebirds. Hope this helps.

I don't entirely understand the operation of my switch. Ive never seen the electronic part that would release the two hooks on the tonnou. I have a very strange way of opening my top due to the missing or broken parts. If someone with a fully functional manual top could tell me step by step their process I could figure out what I'm missing.
thanx

i have a 91 rs convert and i pull the lever to open up the back of the top, pull that part foward, click the release switch, pull up on the tonneau cover, put the top in the hole, close the tonneau cover. Mostly people have problems with opening the cover because even though when the switch is pushed it clicks, it doesn't always free the cover. Wiggling on the cover while clicking the switch (not sure how that could be done if the switch was on your center console) fixes that.

My switch is between the window switches as well - I do it the same way as mentioned above. If mine doesn't release, I just give the side that is "stuck" a light push while holding the button back.

Not sure exactly why it's shorting out on you . In case it helps, the wires go from the switch between the power window buttons on the center console back to behind the rear speaker panels. There, they connect to a solenoid switch which is wired to release the tonneau cover. The ground runs all the way to the rear of the car to the rear trunk motor so if the trunk is open you can't operate the tonneau electrically.
