Ok everyone I'm new here I got a 1986 Iroc Z28 Camaro right before I was 16 for $2600 ( I payed half and my parents payed half)
Since then every penny that's went into it has been all money I'v earned.
I now just turned 17 and the here Is my build timeline:
BELOW IS OF CAR BEFORE I GOT IT IT LOOKS NICE BUT LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING

Re: My 1986 Iroc Z build
The paint was peeling on the bumper bubbling on the window frame
The engine smoked horribly ( rings where worn and heads needed a valve job)
drivers side floor pans are rusted
among many other things

Re: My 1986 Iroc Z build
Very good job. I think you are the youngest person i have seen on here that is fixing up there car right. Hell we got people on here older than you that are spray painting there cars for a new "paint job". Again keep up the good work. You will forever have the 3rd gen bug especially it being your first car. If you only knew then amount of $$$ you will spend on cars from now on lol...

O and don't ever sell this car... I sold my first one and everyday after that i wish i wouldn't have.
Again good job and good luck with the project. Not many kids left that would yank that ugly chrome gas filler door off.

$750 for paint and labor? He works basically for free then? I'd be pretty skeptical of the prep /paint job you're gonna get for that price...

Good luck on it.

Really hope it all works out for you, the pics of the grey Camaro are sweet. Is the body man going to paint all the door jambs etc. grey too? Too bad the engine compartment didnt get painted with the engine out, but I guess its still doable...Im new to these Camaros... painting mine back factory color so I dont have to do all the jamb areas.

Re: My 1986 Iroc Z build
Run away from this body shop. He literally used newspaper and bath towls for masking. He has a workbench full of dusty junk in his Home Depot 2x4 plastic sheeted "booth", using the term booth extremly lightly. Overspray is on everything (truck, and camaro) noteably primer on the license plate bracket, park lights. Improper sanding/scuffing evident by the strip (pinstrip) on the front bumper. Such non care and neglagence that its comical.

All warranties on paint are null and void. If there was a warranty, the paint he uses is to cheap to be warantied. If in theory, if you make a claim for paint failer the paint rep will visit the shop and take one picture of the booth (not waisting time to take more than one) and attach it to the denial letter while laughing.

This is the "fly by night guy " who follows no enviremental laws, low ***** estimates, and makes it hard for legitiment quality shops who actually play by the rules.

Sorry for the reality. I see so many "painted my car for $50" threads that it depresses me as to the future of the hobby. The few threads where guys want to do the job right, such as this one, give me a glimer of hope. Iroczmark you have come this far, I just dont want to see the project go south in the final stages. For a budget build Maaco would have far superior quality.

Good luck with the build,
Tucker

Re: My 1986 Iroc Z build
That's just dust on the bracket and parking lights and I have new lights to put in already
The strip of "primer'' on the bottom is actually body filler
Look the guy thats doing my paint may not have the best facilities but I see his work and Its great IMO.
