Hoods lifting / blowing off?

Any problems with lifting at high speed? Especially with fiberglass hoods. I post this question based on the following:

Was racing a 5.0 Mustang this afternoon; at about 90mph, I check my mirror for him, just in time to see his hood flip up. When I got back to where he stopped, we pulled the hood down off of the windshield to inspect the damage. The fiberglass hood (daytona style) was cracked in to about three big pieces, the windshield looked like someone had taken a bat to it, and the first foot and a half of the roof was caved in.

A true street 'kill'

So, if anyone sees a blue 5.0 in Fairfax, VA that looks like it got rolled, that was my handywork.

My SS hood separated at 110 mph . The top shell blew clean off the bottom re-inforcements and nearly hit the car behind me . ASCD has some kick a$$ customer service though . They replaced and painted my new hood no questions asked , as opposed to trying to fight it . No problems with the new hood at all . They said it was a freak thing , and I think I believe them

hey let me get this right... your hood blew off and hit the 5.0 and cracked his windshield and caved in his roof? or was it your car whose windshield was shattered and roof caved in?

ok dude. what he said was that when he looked back at the mustang, the MUSTANGS hood blew off and smacked the windshield. that camaro was ahead so he saw it in his RV mirror.

and have you ever heard of a camaro behind a PUSSTANG? not me.

wait there was that one time. when i saw the cop first . oh man i have never seen a cop so happy to pull someone over besides me. man he had to be doing 110mph when he passed me to catch that mustang. funniest thing ever!

By the way, I have an '86 TransAm WS6, not a Camaro. It's got an ASCD RamAir hood on it. That's why I asked.

ive had that happen to me once. but i was in my daily driver (a 90 cougar) i was racing a 80s something camaro rs that had been beaten badly by its owner. my hood blew up and smashed in my windshield roof and ripped up part of my fender where the mounting brackets pulled free. by the way even though the rs was abused. i still lost. damn quick cars. but anyway as long as your hood is shut tight it shouldnt be much of a problem.

Damn ford - can't even design a hood latch... :P I know a guy with a 65 mustang whose hood flew up on the freeway, but it didnt hit the windsheild. All it did was bend the back corers of the hood. Anyways, I have stock hood, and i have driven with it popped up before when the car overheated. I did it to help cool the engine down. Maybe the 20 pounds of bondo in it keeps it weighted down.. :P

My brother's hood flew off going down the interstate not too long ago,and he just put it on 30 minutes before that! It was a new IROC hood he just bought and put on.We found out that the bolts holding the latch stripped completely out. He was only doing about 60-65 mph when it caught air and just lifted COMPLETELY off, straight off the hinges and everything. And didn't even touch his windshield!

I saw a video of an RX-7 blowing its hood off. It was doing a crazy donut burnout. He kept going around in circles smoking his tires. I figured his tires would go, but after close to two minutes, there was an explosion, flame shot out around his hood, and the hood came up about 5". It was pretty cool

YOU GUYS GOT ME SCARED NOW. GONNA GO CHECK THE BOLTS ON MY DAYTONA AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT SINCE I DIDN'T PUT THE HOOD ON MYSELF. ONE DAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND COULD NOT GET THE HOOD TO LOCK. THANK GOD SHE CALLED ME AS SOON AS SHE GOT ON THE EXPY. I CAME OVER AND JUST PUSH THE HOOD DOWN HARDER IT LOCKED AND OFF SHE WENT. SHE WAS A LITTLE EMBARASSED BUT AT LEST SHE DIDN'T F*** UP THE HOOD OR WINDSHIELD. THANK GOOD FOR CELL PHONES AND THE FEAR OF ME BI*c*-*N(SMILE LADIES).

I've got a hood from american sports car design that looks like one from a 427 vette. Well anyway, whenever I go down the highway or interstate it always raises about an inch. I'd like to put hood pins in but can't figure out where to drill. Besides, I've already got the hood painted.

SpeedCat86 - I'll be in Vienna/Fairfax area in 2 weeks for an interview. I'll keep my eyes open for the car and hope he doesn't get it fixed by then. I'd love to see that one!!!

Ford might be selling more cars than GM, but we all know which brand is better!
