Need help with power hatch motor!!!! felp!!!

Hey guys, on my 91 TA, my power hatch is all sorts of messed up. I went to open it the other day via the dashboard switch, the motor raised teh hatch, but didn't unlatch it. (ok , at this point I figured it raised it up some, then got stuck, thus didn't unlatch the hatch) , so I took my key and unlatched the lock manually. I then tried sticking my finger on the contact to lower the hatch back done, it didn't even budge. So I'm going great. So I wait until it's light out this morning and go out and look at it. I first look at the railing that the unit rides on to raise and lower it. I notice that it's plastic. I also notice that there's little pieces (and some big) of plastic ALL over inside the railing, this can't be good. I'm guess the plastic gave out and now the unit is stuck where it is, unable to move up or down, this either frying the motor or something. So, I go to try and take the unit out so I can look at it better. I get everything unconnected BUT the cable that runs from the unit to the key latch. I can't figure out how to get that damn thing off. Do I have to take out the whole latch or something?? Any suggestions??

Also, what do you guys think of my problem with the plastic pieces in the railing? Am I screwed?? It looks like the unit is actually rivitted onto the railing, so I dunno. Am I gonna have to go pick up a whole new unit ya think???

Hey guys! I was hoping someone would have some clues for me to look at!!

What should I do if I want to at least lower the motor so that I can close the hatch and not have fumes going all throughout the car. hehehe Is there a way to manually lower the motor/latch ? I don't care if I have to break it to do it, it's all ready broke it seems. I just want to be able to drive er tonight.

Thanks guys,

Ryan
