Best dash protectant /Interior cleaner

Once I do get a new dashpad, I want to keep it from cracking like my current one. The previous owner didnt take care of it....

So what is the best conditioning product for vinyl(sp?)? and the hard black plastic?

Thanks...

I like EagleOne tire dressing and protectant. Used it on my Camaro's dash since I bought it new in 1986, and it still looks new. Won't melt the grain like Armor-All, and doesn't leave a film on your glass. Also it isn't super shiny like some products, which causes glare.

It used to be years and years ago that Armor-All was the only option for protectant. Many cars, my '63 Nova included, used it. What happens is over the course of years, the Armor-All melts away any leather graining that is on the vinyl, and leaves a smooth and glossy surface. It did it on my car, and its done it to a lot of friends cars as well.

Armour-ALL is kind of an evil product. It is petroleum based, and if used too much it will eventually dry out the material it is applied to - it will cause cracking in dashes and tires over time.

I use a product called 303 Protectant. It is a littel harder to find, and more expensive that Amour-all, but it will not cause cracking and it leaves the same look as Armour-all. It is also fantastic at removing the have from Gel-coat fibreglass!

By the way... I also recommend not using Armor-All instead of wax on your paint job.

A friend of mine bought a firstgen Camaro, oh 7 or 8 years ago so so, and it looked pretty good for an older paint job. So he decided to restore it, and had the paint stripped off and the car repainted. Within a few weeks his new paint started peeling off. That was when he found out that the previous owner had used Armor-All on the paint for many years.

So my friend tore the car apart and had the body shell dipped to remove the chemical. He painted the shell, and again after a short time the paint started peeling again. The Armor-All had actually soaked into the metal rendering the body into a piece of unusable scrap metal.

Another question...

Is there anything that will restore a dashpad to its original soft state, after someone has used armourall on it?
