I eventually want to get new lenses, even though they are pretty pricey (almost $400 for both sides). I was wondering, do all the 91-92 Birds have PONTIAC across the back like mine do? Well, I know the V6/TBI Firebird models dont, I am pretty sure they have the Firebird logo there instead. If anyone has a 91-92 Firebird with the PONTIAC name written across the back could you please let me know...was this just a Trans AM/GTA thing?

Actually it is painted like that on all 91-92 Trans Am and GTA taillight lenses. I need to repaint the letters back on my GTA, they washed off over the years

The cheaper Firebirds of those years don't have the smoked lenses like our GTA's....

I am very much interested in a pair of these exact taillamps for my 86 TA. However, i would like to avoid paying 360 dollars per side, as quoted by the dealer. Anyone have an idea of where to get a set? I search the classefieds daily, and to no avail...

Well, I got some info for those that are interested.

According to people I spoke to at Year One and at my local Pontiac parts department, for 91-92, the Trans Am rear tail light lenses were solid black in the center while the GTA's had the name "PONTIAC" written across them.

You are able to order 91-92 Trans Am tail lenses via Year One for $197 a side. Keep in mind that these are the straight black lenses without the "PONTIAC" name written in red. Here is the address: http://www.yearone.com/nextgenparts/...ngbody100.html

Seeing as I own a 91 GTA with the PONTIAC name scrolled across the back on my lenses, I really would like to get those, so I called my local Pontaic dealer. I found out that you are still able to order the GTA style "PONTIAC" lenses though GM for $208 a side.

These are pretty pricey, but in the long run may be worth it for some of you...wish I had the money to splurge!

 

I almost forgot, the part numbers for the 91-92 GTA lenses are as follows:

16513595 - LH side
16513596 - RH side

I bought a set of those lights--1 side of Pontiac is worn off too--guess it's common!
I found a place on the net that sells them for $143 each side--I'm not sure if they're the ones that says Pontiac. Still that's a great price!!

Look, both the Trans Am and GTA lens have the word "PONTIAC" molded into them and BOTH the Trans Am and GTA have the name painted in, not just the GTA. Who ever told you that just the GTA is painted in is WRONG.

Actually you are just misinformed. Your TA had it brand new but it probably washed off during it's first car wash. My GTA doesn't have it painted there any more because mine washed off too. Trust, I've seen enough original TA's to know that it was there from the factory.

Actually,I've seen both T/As and GTAs both with and without the PONTIAC logos on the taillights and this was when they were BRAND NEW in the dealerships. I have a set with the logo on my Formula and it looks great.

Actually those taillights came on all 91-92 Trans am's and GTA's, The formula got the same tailights as they did before , I am looking for a set of Trans am tail lights for my formula

 

Good luck in finding them used! No one wants to give them up, and if they do they want a fortune for them!! you're better off buying them new-even if you have to buy one at a time. And no they don't come w/a harness. The regular T/A should fit the lenses. If they don't you can go to the Help section of your parts store and buy the required receptacle(that's what I did to my Formula).

I changed the stock ones for the GTA/TA lights. It didn't come with them stock. Sorry for not saying that the first time.

90 TA and GTa's didnt come with the Two piece tail lights , They where a 91-92 Only style

Yes they do but they're different from the 91-92 style. 92 style is a 2 piece and the other models are 3 pieces.

 

91-92 taillights in my 89 GTA

 

I know gtaemblems.com sells the gold lettering for the 91-92 taillights. Does anyone else?
