90-92 dash gap???
I went and looked at a '92 Camaro RS the other day. The owner said it was a 1 owner car with 70K original miles. It did reflect 73K on the odometer and the interior was super clean, body was in great shape, engine ran silky smooth with lots of power, trans shifted well, steering and susp. was all nice and smooth but could have used some new struts and shocks, engine compartment was like a role model for what a clean engine should look like for all engines, anyway what im trying to say it was an extremely nice car. One thing I saw that bothered me was right above the gauge cluster in between the dash pad was a 1/4" - 1/2" gap and there was a 1/2" gap all the way around where the block that the radio sits in where it meets the front of the dash. You could see all the wires and stuff behind the cluster and radio. It looked like someone rigged a hands free cell phone into the wiring harness. I was wondering, are these gaps normal on 90-92 Camaro's? I have an '88 IROC and the interior is a little different in texture and shape but I do not have any gaps anywhere. If anyone has any info on this pass it my way.
The car was at a used car lot but it is being sold by the owner of the lot as a favor for his friend. He knows the full history and on it and claims it was the 5th to the last camaro to roll of the Van Nyes assembly line (how true that is I do not know, I did not check the cowl tag or VIN) The RS was a 305 TB V8, 700r-4, t-tops, reb with black custom interior, power everything except mirrors. The guy is asking $6,950 for it but I asked him if someone brought him cash how negotiable is it and he said VERY.

Poor college student(donations welcome ;0) with an all stock 1988 5.7L IROC-Z Hardtop, Auto. trans, white ext. w/gold accents (soon to be silver), black custom cloth interior, 4-wheel discs and G92 pkg. Car is dead stock. Has only standard Z28 power options and all the IROC performance stuff you could get. No pwr. seats, mirrors, or rear defrost.

ChevyGuy, I have a 91 RS and I also have the same gap above the gauges. I don't know why it is there but I never noticed it until I was checking some fuses and looked up at it. I think it is normal but don't ask me why. The console where my radio sits is not like that though.
I would think that as long as nothing is broken or cracked it could be straightened out.
Run the VIN# before anything and if the mileage checks out I think if you get him to $5,500 to $6,000 it would be a steal.

a quarter inch gap is common, but not a half inch; that is huge!......... there seems to be a gap abouve the gauge cluster; don't know why but it is common, everything else should fit like a glove though.......
hope you enjoy the car if you buy it!

My gauges also have a 1/2" gap above them. That is nothing.

OK, cool. I was just worried about it but I am still curious as to why the radio box of the console does not fit flush against the dash. I dunno, I dont think we are going to get it. There are tons of other RS's and Z28's for less $ Thanks for all of your input guys.
