Got some rust on T-Tops....(ironic?)

Maybe... I noticed that the T-Tops have developed some rust on the metal edges on top of the T's. How do I get rid of the rust effectively? I prefer a do-it-yourself method as a set of Ts @ the junkyard runs $400. In so-so shape! I am on a limited budget so this wouldn't be an option, much less new ones from the dealer!
I appreciate any input guys. Thanks!

Hi guys, We have available here in Australia a product called "EXTEND" Rust treatment (Industrial Grade )Stops old rust and prevents new. It works fantastic on rust. Better than your other rust killers. It's a white, water based liquid you just brush or spray on and let dry. Then in most cases just paint on top with top coat. No rubbing or sanding. When it's dry it turns Black (the more rust, the blacker it gets) on the painted areas you tough it stays white and just wipes off. Sorry I don't have the full detail as part of the label has gone, but what I can read is "Mississauga, Ontario. Made in USA.
Hope this is of some help.

I used POR-15. The 'ROC sat out all winter and no signs of new/developing rust.

Check here:

Extend is made by the Duro division of Loctite corp. out of Cleveland, OH, USA. My Ex-mother-in-law retired from Loctite. I have cabinets full of Loctite/Duro products. The Extend product is a really good rust fighting product. It works as easily as described above, I used some on the trim on my hatch glass before repainting it.

Heres how I repaired mine:

Prepped it with lots of masking tape!
First I sanded it with 180 grit
Then I used steel wool to take down any extra crap left
Next I painted it with TESTORS model paint (Flat Black)
Then I used 220 grit and wore down imperfections in the paint.
Retouched with more black paint and removed the tape.
They look almost new.
