With or without hatch motor?

Seems like my car is a base model. Manual windows, locks, no extra light in hatch area. I see no motor around the hatch latch. However I'm getting exhaust fumes in the car and im guessing it's from the rear where e duals exit. There is something right next to the hatch latch - a sensor? Should it have a latch motor?

Re: With or without hatch motor?

if there are fumes entering the car than you have a leak. you hatch could be misaligned or not mating properly with the weatherstripping surfaces. also check the spare tire area for holes.

Re: With or without hatch motor?

Just had exhaust checked out and gaskets at y-pipe changed. Still have exhaust smell in cab, but only with windows part way down. I added extra stripping to seal under the hatch, no difference. Retorqued header bolts. Put in pull down motor. Very little if anything changed. Even set it to max ac - no difference.

Car has those bow tie exhaust tips coming straight out of the back. Would that cause exhaust to get sucked into the cab?

Re: With or without hatch motor?

1986 model year cars did have a motorized hatch pull-down unit standard.

I drove mine around with no hatch (sparingly) for a couple of months due to an accident, and didn't get any fumes. Also convertibles seem to work ok. The leak's probably further up front somewhere.
