1983 z28 color confusion
Hi guys, so I am about to re paint my rear bumper, front clip, hood, and my rear quarter GFX. I pulled the paint code from the under hood tag on my 83; it read 22c 27L 27u. I then ran 27L through the computer at my auto body supplier and it came back as dark blue. Now, my confusion begins here because my car is a light blue/ silver color with silver GFX. I am pretty sure that I have seen early third gens on here with the same paint scheme so I have never had reason to believe that the car was repainted a different color. After running the code through the computer at my auto body supply store, both the main body and 'stripe' color came back as a dark blue. I have no problem matching my current color but I would like some clarity on this either way. Attached find a picture of my car. Thanks guys!

Re: 1983 z28 color confusion
Ran into this problem everytime I worked on a third gen when I was painting full time in the late 80's and 90's. GM only listed the upper body color on their two toned cars. You may have to find a paint store with an old '83 paint chip book. Lots of the older paint store still have some somewhere. On the back of the chip pages or possibly at the end of the GM section they will list the two tone colors based on the upper color. This should give the paint code for the lower color. Haven't tried to look up the lower colors since everything went to computers. One last option may be to take a piece of the lower color or the car to a paint store and get them to take a picture of it with their special cameras. They will download that into their computer and it will pick out the closest match to the lower color. We use one at work for nearly every color because we have just switched to hybrid water based and they just haven't got their colors right yet. One thing we have noticed is don't take the pic in direct sunlight as this seems to affect the colors for some reason.
