how do you remove the guage needles

I am in the process of switching milage things because I got a new 145 mph speedo. How do you take the Guage needles off?? I started to pull on one and broke part of the circle of it.

thanks

Bill,

If you remove the speedo needle, you may need to have the speedo recalibrated if you want it to read correctly. By the way, you can swap mileage rolls without removing the needle. Loosen the two screws on the face, allow the face to rest gently on the needle, and the ensuring 'crack' will allow the swap--at least it did on mine.

****.. I already took it off with a plastic fork... Damn it... Well next question where do you get these things recalibrated?? My other question is that I have the dashpad off and the screws holding the speedo in off and I can get the darn speedo out. Seems like something is holding it in on the left side but I can't figure out what it is... SOme kind of wire or something???

thanks again....

Your GM dealership should be able to send the speedo somewhere for recalibration. I've removed the speedo cluster several times from below. I suspect what's holding you up is the speedo cable itself. By the way, you'll have to remove the entire cluster to remove the speedo head.

I took my needles off. All you have to do for the speedo one is put the needle on pointing up a little, it will swing down until it stops. In mine, there is a stop in it, which aparently is 0. I have been driving next to someone going the speed limit, and it is within 1 or 2 mph of it. I don't live around too many cops, so it works fine for me. I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it worked. I think it is the same for the tach also.

I took off my tach needls to try something with it, and I havent been able to get it back in there right since. I think I may have messed up the gauge, though. It seems to act a little weird. Sometimes while idling, it says I am at around 700-800 rpm, but other times, it will register 0 rpm? I havce no idea what th prob is.
