Where in the hell is this water coming from?
Where in the hell is this water coming from?
Sometimes when it rains, I will find a puddle of water sitting in the front passenger footwell and the rear passenger footwell has a ton of water-underneath the carpeting. The door panels and seats are always bone dry and so is the headliner. Could it be really old weatherstripping? Im getting new carpet anyway but I'd prefer if it doesn't get soaked once a week. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hard to say exactly where it's coming from. Since you cannot see any obvious water leaks (right???) such as water spots on glass, or obvious leaks like rotted and pulled away weatherstripping (right???), and the seats are dry and show no evidence of a water leak, count out the front t-top seal on the passenger side. look at the rear part of the passenger side seal. Sounds to me like 2 different leaks, one from the dash/firewall area, one from the back. if the outside of the carpet in back is dry, just wet underneath, take out all the interior panels on that side of the car and sit inside while someone runs over all the possible leak sites with a 2" bead of water out of a garden hose. Very possible that the leak is coming from the top of the hatch or t-tops and is running underneath the panels onto the floor. Also possible that it's just spilling over from the leak up front. You'll have to look into it, just remember that water will take the easiest route to the lowest point it can get to. Good luck, BTW: clear RTV silicone works great for sealing leaks, just don't go crazy. Weatherstrip sealant works too, but can get messy and real awkward to handle. Your preference.
Why not try this, sit in the car and let someone run a garden hose (try to get high pressue) over the car. Maybe you can see the water when it comes in.

That's how we (the dealer) water test cars and trucks with water leaks. You need to use low pressure and have water puddle up and pour in because high pressure will force water past weatherstrips that seal well. Water doesn't hit a car at 500 psi, the most you want if you do decide to use high pressure would be equivalent or a hard rainfall. 2" bead from the end of a garden hose should duplicate this nicely. Make sure you go over EVERYTHING, water can get in places and puddle up in the oddest ways.
