Hood luvers

Can a 88 iroc-z hood be modifyed to make the luvers work. I like the look and don't want to change it to much. But it would be mint if they worked. The 82_83 looks more of an open ram air type and I have to drive it rain or shine

It would be impractible to even try. If you ever looked at the actual IROC race cars, you'd see that the louvers were actually part of the hood. If you really want something like that, you'd be best off making your own fiberglass hood, or finding someone to make you a one-off.

Did you send your rims to a crome shop or where they cromed when bought.

I had them polished and chrome plated back in '93. Still look real good, though the backsides are peeling a bit.

you can do it, I was thinking about it for a while, If you can rig up a set of small motors with two pullys to change the ratio for power you could make then power open close. Leave the lovers alone and cut out the hood underneath them then rig up a set of rails with seals, make sure you lube it with vasoline or something and then attach the motors to a window switch of some sort. It is possable, I need to look into a little futher but you know....

That's a good idea to make them open and close. I will take that insulation out to see how the louvers come off. On the 2nd gen's did they have a cowle hood that opened when the four barrarle's opened up.I'm going to see if I can find one of these in the junk yard.Maybe one of those motors will work with a few mods.

The only reason you should make them funtional is to release hot air from the engine compartment. The hood is a low pressure area (vaccume) and will only draw air out. The front bumper and cowl areas are high pressure.

That is what I'm trying to do.Run your car and feal the top of the intake(hot). If I can let more hot air out more cool air can come in.And with doing the free mod that involves taking the coolant line out of TB it will be much cooler air.
