Replacement convertible tops……

Where is the best place to get a cloth one? There was someone from Florida selling original GM tops but I lost the link. Any other good sources?

Chuck, are you going to replace the top yourself...?
If you ordered your new one already, may I ask how much it set you back...?
Im in need of a new one myself and Im planning on ordering it shortly so it'll be waiting for me when I return to the States in mid-August.

Thanks a lot!

Ken

I'm interested too. And I just hope ASC didn't change anything in the tops design from 86 to 87.

Go to this site http://www.autostyles.com/cf8793.htm . They have 4 different tops listed but they are not even sure what top is ror what year. " A.S.C. and General Motors made many changes to the top and top frame, and no records are available to us to show which top fits which year Camaro and Firebird."

I wish I could help but I am not sure anyone knows.

I did find a top for $350 and if the deal is good I will pass it on to you all.

I plan to do it myself so wish me luck

Chuck, you are braver than I am. Fortunately I have a good auto upholstery shop near me that is reasonably priced and I trust. They have sewn in new rear windows on two of my convertibles including my 90 RS. Thanks for the link. I lost it whan I switched ISP's. The top is still on my future to-do list. Original one is still holding up fine for now, (11 years and 102K miles on it). It suffers from the common "poofing up" syndrome at freeway speeds (or so I am told). Thanks, Lon.

I also need my convertible top replaced. The upholsterer wants me to get a bracket fixed before he will do the work.

The bracket is only on the driver's side, it connects the first crossmember to the side member. The upholsterer tells me this bracket is supposed to lift the crossmember and provide some tension to the top.

If I remember correctly, the crossmember has always just laid there, it was never lifted up. The bracket seemed as though it was going to lift the crossmember when you began folding the top, it made sure the crossmember folded up not down.

Well, most of the time it jammed and bent up like a pretzel, if you didn't lift the crossmember first.

After replacing it four times, I took it off and left it off, and never noticed a difference.

So, now this bracket is discontinued and no dealer stocks it. I begin my junk yard search tomorrow. But I don't know what a good one looks like, I only have a pretzel.

Does anybody know what this bracket is supposed to do?
Does anybody have one that works for them?
