I just pushed the button in and it didn't pop back out. I know this is common because I have seen two other camaros with the same problem. The small spring clip in there is broken in two. Can i just go to a boneyard and get one from another camaro and put it in?

I've repaired mine many years ago. The part that broke was the bent spring steel clip. I replaced it with a coil spring. It required drilling a cavity to allow for the spring. But it has never broken again. I guess I need to revisit making a repair kit for this. Thanks for the reminder.

A quick tip...remove those broken pieces of spring right away; I didn't, and one of them worked it's way down and jammed the latch in the closed position. I had to use a screwdriver to pry it open and it busted the button.

i got the spring clip out, it is broken in two, but I want to get it fixed, i tried the spring thing, but had a problem with finding a good sized one for there. I will have to visit the boneyard for a new clip maybe. Or rig a spring in there.

My buddys car had the same problem and he to could not find one at the junk yard!!! So what he did was take the whole lid off and put velcro strips on to!! So instead of opening the whole lid comes off and just snaps back on!! It sounds kinda of funny but it works!!

Hey on your back release latch, what pops the locking part of the hatch, I added the switch and relay to my car and I get the back hatch to go up but it won't pop the lock so it just stays on the switch and goes back down.

I put a piece of foam rubber in there, because I couldn't find a spring that would fit.

5 years now, still works great, and no rattle!

I don't suppose anyones tried a dealership for the spring? Chances are if they can get it, its less than a buck.

i tried the dealer, but they couldn't figure out what I was talking about so I am going to stop up there with the console lid to see if they can get it that way.

Petes... I had the same problem. Mine got stuck in the lock pos. So I used the screwdriver technique and got it open. After that, I ended up braking the button. It looks normal still, but the peice to lock it in is busted. Mine just doesn't lock at all anymore. I'm ok with it, so I havent fixed it yet. Junkyards usually dont have what your looking for, but it is possible.

Jay
