I've heard of people going as wide as 265 or 275, but they had problems rubbing the inner fenders in the front. I'm not sure that wider is better for tires. If you go too wide the wheel can't support it and the tire will flex too much causing the contact patch to "squirm" and then you lose traction. It's really only for looks, not much performance gain.

My 245/50/16 slightly rub the plastic inner fenders in the front while making sharp turns on my 87 T/A. My car is also lowered if that would make a difference.

On a thirdgen that was not originally equipped with p245 50 R16 tires, you may find some rubbing at full lock in the front. On the IROCs and Z28s with 16" wheels, the steering box did not allow the wheels to turn as far as on the 15" cars. I don't know about the RS camaros with 16" wheels so I'm not even going to guess.

On my IROC I've got Dunlap p255 50 ZR16 tires on the front as well as Jamex lowering springs and I do not rub at all.
