Not really. If you lose your key and don't have a spare, you have to get the column re-chipped and then get a new key, which I believe I heard costs around $175. So I'd rather be safe and pay the $25 now then be sorry later.

You think thats bad? How about a Benz key? One of my co-workers has one and its an $80 key plus an hour drive to Seattle to visit a Benz dealer!
