Taking car to the shop to be painted... TODAY.
Im going to go get my 89' Iroc painted, along with minor body work done. When she gets out, she will be stunning. I am excited and thought I would share it with all of you.

Yes factory black with the red Iroc Decal. I am getting the body aligned, the ttop bar replaced, and the weather strip installed as well. Ill make sure to get some pics of it in the shop as well.

Unfortunately not. My plans have been crushed. And now, I do not know what to do. The original price I was looking at was 2500, after I brought it to the shop yesterday. The guy called back and estimated me at 5500. Way out of my price range. So, I have to bring my poor baby back home.

How does a 2500 estimate unexpectedly turn into a 5500 estimate?

Apparently, even though I STATED, they would have to sand down to metal, they disregarded that with the price I gave them. After further "investigation" they called and said it would cost 5500 because of that.

First let me say that it really sucks that they did that to you ....but if you were expecting a B/C $2,500.00 is a little low for the amount of prep and repair (rust)that you have .He was off when he quoted you that price. I'm surprised you even found a shop that would do a total car like that. Most shops make there money on insurance claims that are in and out quickly. I was told by just about every shop I went to "no thanks" and the one that said he would do it wanted $4,800.00 and wanted to just work on it in between jobs. Estimate time to finish was 5 months.
Sorry about the negative vibes but your going to have to fix most of the rust spots on that car before a shop is going to take it and still expect to pay more than that original quote. I spent $1,500.00 just in materials, paint ,clear, etc. weather striping and miss. parts and pieces, and another $1,500.00 to my friend (pro. painter)for prep and painting but my car was in "good" shape to start with.Mind you that's a friend that strait out told me he would charge $5,000.00 to any one else.
He currently has his own shop in Salem Oregon and all he dose is restoration type work.
I do wish you luck with it .It will happen for you.

Well I did decide I will sand it down, and prime it myself. Then take it back. It was a friend who made the deal, and it was mostly for paint, I came asking for more than I thought. However. The rust you see is just the ttop bar, which I have a new one of. But, I will make a restore thread of me getting it ready to go back to the shop.
