Just wondering how many Camaro/Firebirds painted this color are still out there? Besides one in junkyard mine is the only one I've seen. I've searched the site and didn't see any pic or anyone having one. Paint code is WA-8318/ 62U 62L.
That's going to be a tough one. Most of them were probably base/no-option cars, and the few that survived have probably been repainted Red or Black.
Apparently the color was only available from 1983-84, with roughly 24,000 units produced. Based on that information, I'll guess that roughly 1,500 survive and are still Light Brown.
Thanks for the reply. I think i'm gonna keep it the original color just because it's different. Not sure if people hated that color or what? I Just thought maybe a member or two just might have one too. Thanks again.
Yeah, unfortunately not many people like the color Brown on sporty cars. I'm sure there's some others out there though. To me, it's different, and therefore I like it. You're not likely to see another one at a car show.

Mine is a dark brown. I don't have the paint code on it but I know it is the factory color. who would change the color to brown if it was any other color anyways haha. but mine is a 1984 z28.

I have only seen a few and they don't seem to be in the best shape. But I live in east Knoxville area and I drive it everyday so you probably have seen me around. Here are a couple pictures. It is dark brown with silver ground effects and the interior is brown with gray headliner.

I think I have seen yours before because not many people here have louvers. Post a pic up when you get it painted.
I have owned this one for 18 years in Mi. Repainted Br.Br. 3 yrs. ago as all interior trim is that chocolate brown. Removed all decals, turned the tires, switched out to a 350. Replacing fabrics someday. P.S. No garage. So all day rain leaves puddle under rear seat. Stop. Found it. The screw hole in the sheet metal that holds the 3in. dia. plastic inserts for the long gone (in this car) retractable shade. Just a dab of caulk or replace the screw. For future reference.

I h ave a 1984 Z28 that is Brier Brown . Our paint codes are the same . Mine is a dark brown with metalic the paint . Almost Hu .rshey Chocholet color with gold stripes around the bottom .
From what find out only a little over 9000 Camaros were painted this color . That is why I am keeping mine this original color

Interior is dark brown . I had a light brown headliner . When I replaced the head liner I went with dark brown and did the same with any trim pieces that are supposed to match the headliner . The brown looks much better than the light brown did .

Reason: More details
Sounds like your driving the same exact color car as I although I removed all decals and turned the tires when I bought it 24 years ago. It's been repainted original Briar Brown twice since then. At 68 years of age I redid the interior top to bottom changing out the worn cloth for easier to slide in and out of chocolate brown vinyl. What a work out. I have never seen another in this color. Most guys don't care much for the brown but the ladies do. I always did to. Thanks for sharing.
Assuming this was an available color on the Firebird’s as well? I traded my T/A hood plus cash to a guy years ago for a flat hood that is some shade of brown. Always assumed someone painted it this color but don’t think anyone would do that so it’s gotta be factory lol.

I'd like to see more pictures of your car. Mine looked exactly the same as your car, but it was rusty why I bought it. Back in 2004 I changed the color, and the guy didn't do a great job. Now I'm looking to paint it back to the original 67U with the gray bottom and stripes.

Some people call this dark briar brown. Only photos I have. No decals here. 250,000 miles
I don't know how to put pictures on the internet . Mine is just like yours except for the gold stripeing kit where yours is white and my car has gold factory mags.
Nice car. It is the same color as my car. My car has the gold factory stripes around the bottom of the car. My car also has gold factory mags.
My car is a survivor . I have had a new brown headliner and 4 new BF Goodrich tires, the largest factory designated size. ( I can't remember the size ).
I am getting ready to replace the rear hatch struts when my health allows.
I bought the car as a grandson and grandfather project. Unfortunitly he has no interest in working on the car.
Now that the car is road worthy he now wants to have the car but he didn't earn it. so I am not going to give the car to him .
I hope this will be a lesson learned for him . You have to work to earn the things in life that you want or need.
This is my car today. Painted in 2004 and the upstate NY rust from the 2004-2006 era has returned (it is an original upstate NY car). Since I'm going to repair and repaint, I've thought about the original color (as mentioned before) but there aren't a lot of examples for the brown/gray cars.
Trust me! The car was brown and rusty. The two blended together with the flat brown (no clearcoat). I've had a hard time finding good paint pictures of paint coded 67 cars. They all look mauve in color. Even my underside and in the wheel wells looks mauve color instead of dark brown. The paint didn't retain its pigment very well. The brown interior fades to purple in sunlight too. Except the cargo area, that faded to green before windows tint was added.
The way the interior looked when I got it. Replaced the carpet and cleaned up the seats. Still the original seats, just purplish color instead of brown.
According to the metal plate, my memory, my pictures, and this dealer order guide, the 67 cars only came with dark brown paint, dark brown interior, silver lower stripe and wheels. When the paint fades, it's ugly. According to pics you guys have posted, it looks great when still brown.

Re: Light Briar Brown Camaro
I remember seeing them. Not a popular color. But not super rare, either. This was 35 years ago, so they were new cars back then.
A little perspective. If there are 5 million people around me in the general area, odds are much greater than small towns where only a handful of these cars were seen driving around.

Wow. That’s nuts how much the color changed. The early 80’s metallic paints were pretty bad.
i think the original light briar brown color looks good on the early cars. Repainted with a good base/clear, the metallic will pop and it will bring out to color nicely.

I recently found the info this thread started on, how many were produced of ______________ color in '84. I'll attach the GM archives page.
I have a '83 Z28 in Dark Brown (67) with original paint and brown stripe. The "Brown" Z28 color scheme was only available on White and Brown Z28s in '83. Cross-Fire still runs great. The car is mostly original and unmolested. My mom bought the car in 1986. Sold it to my sister in 2007. Sister sold it to me in 2015. Trying to keep everything in working order and original.

You all took good care of it. Looks great for original paint. I'm Still looking for the pulse wiper motor if you ever here anything on that. Just missed buying what could be the last circuit board for that motor 2 years ago. So I can't say that everything works. Take care.
WOW!!!!!! Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So awesome!!!!!! Man I love it!!!! ....the color code will be along the bottom of the SPID (Service Parts Identification) Label. On the later cars I think it's typically under the console lid. Maybe not on the 82-84 cars. Either way....find it, it'll have all the codes/RPOs etc. etc. Good info to have.

thanks for the help. I don’t know where it’s at but I will find it. Once I find it and get the codes, who would I contact to order touch up paint to get exact match?
I am the third owner of this magnificent beautiful car. the gentleman who I bought it from said he had it for about two years and bought it from the original owner in Tacoma WA. The guy collects and refurbished old cars. He bought this one in mint condition. The first owner kept it garaged in Oregon/Washington and was his show car for car shows. Only has 38k miles on it. The second owner only chose to sale it to make room for two other projects he needed to fit into his mechanic shop.
who would I contact to order touch up paint to get exact match?
...any body supply shop can mix some paint up, but if it's just very small amounts, try these guys. I've bought touch up paint from them before with good results. https://www.automotivetouchup.com/
great car, perfect color....keep it just like that!!! lots of great memories ,my 2 friends had early 82-83 z28's brand new back in the day..one was white(auto, loaded),the other grey(t5,low option car)
The paint code should be on the "Fisher" tag in front of the radiator. My '83 doesn't have a plate with the RPO codes, but I found the "Build Sheet" under the rear passenger seat. Also, a great resource is on-line, Google search "1984 camaro heritage center". There will be a PDF from GM with a wealth of information.
With the stripe, interior and wheel color combination, I bet the color is Dark Gold (Met) - Color code "65".
