I have a great 86 complete 5.0 automatic Z28. Floors are shot. I just picked up a 89 RS V6 5 speed still installed rust free shell. Am I crazy to gut the 89 and move my 86 parts over? Any cautions or advise?

 

if you have to skills to do it and need more power than the v6 provides id do it.since you didn't say if the 305 is fuel injected i can't say more.

 

Tuned port. I figured the price of buying a floor pan, welding and time his should be a no brainer. 82-92 are basically the same I am told? Just making sure there was no major changes that would mess up an alignment of donor parts?

 

they are basicly the same.all the camaros of a same year have the same brakes,rearend,steering,.,,,,,the v6 car probably even has 3.42 rear gears.the big problems is wiring and maybe you will have to swap gas tanks if the v6 fuel pump won't pump enough fuel.

 

Well the swap is starting. V6 Wiring is out. Motor and transmission will be out this weekend. All interior was removed before purchase.

 

A question. The 89 door came with a V6 and 5 speed. As I read the 5 speed will not last long behind the 305. Can I install a blanking plate over the 5 speed hole and use the automatic I have for the 86. I have all parts needed to transfer over. Really want to use what I have. Thanks for any constructive advice out there.

 

the bellhousing with the t5 won't bolt the the 305 anyway.i don't see why you can't sheet metal over the hole and then use the 700r4 shifter since its cable controlled.

 

Thanks for the reply. After looking for a T-5 then a bell housing and other items it will be cheaper to use what I got.

 

Started the disassembly of the 305 so I can pul it with ease. Yeah right. I think GM put a wire to everything and intertwined it after throwing a bolt down and building around it. Multiple pictures, everything labeled and bagged. Nothing broken. I thought today's car had wires. All in all, it will be worth it when my daughter drops the hammer on it. 11 months to go.....
