in mine i took it completely out. I didnt see a need for it other than getting in the way when i need to check fuses, and i couldnt tell it was there when i was sitting in the car so i yanked it out.

hope that helps.

With the panel out the wires fall down; I'm afraid I will pull one out by accident. Thanks!

Try using zip ties. It may look tack to some, but it is very effective.

I tried what yow said and it does work. Thank you both for your ideas I sure don't know all the tricks. It seems to me though, that when the computer was replaced the man took out some type of clips.

thats quite possible. I myself am in the process of taking apart my entire interior, including dash. I have a wireing mess and need to clean it up. good luck with your car and welcome to the board.

I had the same problem with my 90 RS. The plastic tab that is supposed to hold it in place broke. Here's how I solved it. Get a large washer (AKA fender washer) from the auto parts store. Put it in a bench vise and bend about 1/3rd of it up 90 degrees. Then mount the washer in the hush panel adjacent to the fuse panel cover with a screw & nut. Mount it so the panel will release when you move the part that has bent up (or in this case down) is over the fuse panel. When you want to reinstall it push it back in place and rotate the washer. The tab you bent gives you something to easily hang onto and provides the latching method. In re-reading your post, you are describing the larger panel that contains the fuse panel. There are three clips in the front (closest to driver) that hold the larger panel in place. The clips have either broken or fallen off. The HELP section at Pep Boys or other good auto parts stores will have replacement clips. The rear part of the panel is held on by a threaded post.

My car didn't even come with the under dash panel and i was worried about doing the same thing. I snagged a pair of those panels from some junk cars, but i've never actually bothered putting one on. The reason i didn't is we've been working on a freind of mines 85 TA and his has the panel, and i find it annoying. My feet actually almost got STUCK under the stupid thing when i was hitting the clutch pedal. I guess size 13 sketchers and sports car dashes don't mix huh?

I actually removed mine for the same reason. it gets in the way! Plus it would have seriously gotten in the way of the neon glow i was tryin to mount under the dash.

yes, i have a total of four tubes in the interior.. one under each seat, and one under the driver and passenger side dash board. the passenger side was much more trouble than the driver side due to the heater box.. but its all good Its a real wicked color called ultra blue, its tubes glow blue, and fade further out to purple / violet color the further you get from the tube it self.. its real cool..

if i could figure out how to take good pics of neon at night i'd show ya one day.
