dashboard switch

I am currently restoring an 84 berlinetta but want to make it look more like an iroc or a Z28. I already have a nice V8 to put in it and will get a newer T350 trans soon. Will change the front end and put the Iroc or Z ground effects on it. Anyway, I am not crazy about the digital dash. I was wondering if I could change the dash to a standard dash with the mechanical gauges instead of digital. If so, how involved is this and would it be worth it? Thanks a lot.

If you can get ahold of a guage cluster from a Firebird, it may work, assuming it's the same size. Otherwise, to make a Camaro one work, you'll need to figure out how to get a mechanical speedo cable installed. Requires buying and installing the sender, cable, etc. I'm not completely sure that Firebird and Camaro guage clusters have same dimensions, so don't quote me on this.

The 84 Berl already has a mechanical speedo cable. So the change shouldn't be that hard.

i have the same car, and it has some sort of computer that heads all of the functions in these cars like the digital gauges, lights, and turn signals. there is probably a cable going to that module. what i would be more worried about is that friggin turn signal lever with the indicators in the digital display. if you read this struggle, pop me an email on how you go about doing these things, as i plan on attempting the same once i sort out other problems.

The 84 Berlinetta does NOT have a speedometer cable ! It was the first F-Body car to incorperate the electric sending unit inside the tranny.

If you plan to swap the digital dash out of the car - you better have a complete Camaro (or Z) because you will need almost the entire interior & all the harnesses to make the swap successfull !

(If the parts car has the same motor as the berlinetta - it makes things a LOT easier.)

I have done it - It can be done,...... I used the interior from an 86z (LG4) and swapped it into an 85 Berlineta (LG4).
