Your tach is 1000 off to high at what RPM?

If when at rest it is too high then pull off the needle and adjust it, there was a mark on mine to where it should be aligned.

If it is on a different scale, IE & 500 RPM reads 750, at 1000 RPM reads 1500, 2000RPM reads 3000 then it might have gone bad. If course if you want to make custom white gages then mark where the correct reading is and adjust accordingly.

Just a thought
