Repair or replace floor pan?

I'm new to the forum and car restoration in general, I have my first car an 82 Z28 that I've neglected badly. The car has been off the road since 97 andnatured on concrete the undercoating is flaking off. I found a hole in the floorpan on the drivers side and another where the front of the passengers seat bolts down. I removed the interior and there are a few spots of rust that don't go all the way through and are solid when you hit them. I'm not sure whether to get patches put in or just replace the whole thing and start fresh? Any help is appreciated

Re: Repair or replace floor pan?

Can you weld?

What I would do is clean the interior 100%

Cut the seams where there are rust holes, weld in new metal.

Create a new seat bracket.

POR 15 or similar entire interior.

Fiberglass any place where there was rust but it did not go all the way through.

POR 15 entire underside

remove fenders, check for rust

Repeat

Re: Repair or replace floor pan?

Thank you for the advice I have a friend who welds maybe he can help. Just out
Of curiosity how much would it cost to have new floor pans installed? This is my first project and I'm kind of lost just figured I'd start with the rust first!

Lots! I just cut my rust and started welding in new metal. It takes a long time but I probably only spent about 50 bucks so far..... so about 100 dollars to fix all my rust holes and I had rust a little worse than yours. I''d say with new floor pans and getting a shop to do it....... maybe around 2000 dollars

that's my guess anyway.

heres a pic of my floor pan about halfway done on my passage side. I still haven't completely finished but that's about 15 bucks in 18ga steel about 10 hours of time from start

A coupke thousand and it would still not repair the seams and seat mount.

My advice clean it all remove all the rust you can and get rid of thin metal. Do as much pep as you can then have a fiend help

You can only buy them from salvage yards.

I have made a few out of box steel and they worked.

Re: Repair or replace floor pan?

Just a little piece of info for you, I spent a lot of hours online to compare prices on the floor pan, make sure you watch the shipping because that's where they get you. I got mine from CAR ID it was $435 shipped. Ship to a bussiness will also save on the shipping charge.
