Ferrari-Bird

I love Ferraris, I want to own one one day. I know I will more than likely get the cold shoulder for this by some of you, but I mean no disrespect to the beautiful 3rd gen F-body car.

SINCE for obvious reasons I really cannot BUY a Ferrari, and I have an extra 87 Formula waiting to be restored, I was thinking about making some front & rear bumpers. I have the know how, but time is not plentiful as it used to be when I was single.

So for conversations sake I decided to make some preliminary pictures and wanted some opinions, I realize that NOT all of you praise me for my ideas, thats OK. Please PLEASE don't give me the "rice" crap I will not entertain those ideas.

I pretty much stay to myself when it comes to those topics and to be honest I am not planning on EVER owning a Japanese POS.

Here is my idea, I want to refer to it as a 'Ferraribird" the artwork is the best I could do in a short amt of time.

I will post some rear views shortly.

<img border="0" src="http://www.usol.com/~okfoz/Ferrari/ferraribird.jpg" width="351" height="135"></p>

Actually If & when I start making parts, I want to keep things as standard as possible. For instance, the headlights would work in any stock firebird thru 1990. the Ferrari Bumper would be interchangable as well with a stock bumper, and the headlights would not be necessary to convert. Likewise the hoods would line up as a stock hood would. Although not pictured I want to make a Ferrari style hood to boot. I want the ability to mix and match, & perhaps I could sell bits & pieces, or a whole kit.

Just thinking out loud.

John

I have seen the Evolution and personally it looks ok to me. I want to keep the original sheetmetal as much as possible. All bolt on, and after paint, a saturday afternoon to install.

I LOVE the side body lines of the stock Firebird/Camaro, I have no intentions of choping my car up. Just changing the bumpers, headlighs, hood & tailights.

OK, here is a proposed pic of the rear, not final obviously, the horse would be replaced by the screamin-chicken

One of the problems I see with the front bumper is it is too low. I know its a photoshop "hack-job", but the design of the ferrari bumper would hurt airflow to the radiator. I would try something along the lines of a 91-92 style front bumper for clearance issues. Also, I personally think that the back end of a bird is to square for those round taillights. Kinda reminded me of a corvette. I'm not trying to step on toes, I like your idea, but I'd style it after an 80s, early 90's ferrari, because the body shape and lines are similar. Good luck!

All so you need good ground effects to set it off may be fender flares too. Lower the car and get good exhaust.

I do not like the rear end at all.. The front is okay, but it needs GFX... I think the pic of that kit t hat made it look like a C5 was the way you should go. I do like the ZR1 tail light kits...

The front Grill would be functional, not for looks, so that would not be an issue with cooling. It would probably help more than hurt. The little side inlets would be ducted to blow air onto the front brakes.

looks alright, but I wouldn't put the horses on it.
Have you considered a 308 GTS? There reasonably inexpensive, as far as Ferraris go. The performance is tolorable, better than most cars for the price.
As far as jap crap goes, a 240SX with a gear change, & some machine work will take a stock 3rd gen f-body (firehawks dont count, just like most other "gm performance" cars, gm didnt do the performance). A 300ZX will take a 308 GTS, and both are fairily cheap.

I LIKE people with creative minds for this kind of stuff - and believe me I do my fair share of photoshopping of some of my ideas. Just need the time to try it out sometime

As for the tail - something I think could look real cool is, if you continue to elaborate on what you have there but "frenching" it in 1-2" and then make a billet grille kinda thing across the entire tail. Maybe paint the frenched part black and then with the billet insert flush with the outer edge of the fender/trunk lid...?

That rear end would look a lot better with a Ferrari style rear hatch. I also like ChevyKen's idea of the rear billet grille. If you are really serious about all of this though, I think you would be miles ahead doing a Fiero rebody. It is possible to fit either a sb or bb chevy into one, or even a fwd Olds Torinado 455 or Caddy Eldorado setup if you are real good at fabrication.

Go for it
That rear needs some smoothing out or something tho, doesnt blend with the body at all.
And the front might be a little better given an angle back into the car some and not quite as big I think.

Oh, and paint it the brightest yellow or red you can find

Thre rear is a s good as I could get it. Unfortunatly, I started with a RED Ferrari 550 Maranello, so making the color match perfect was more than I could figure out for a few hours of work.

I agree, the round tailights look funky in the picture, and I am not crazy about them. It would look better in real life though. when I get a chance I will have to redo the rear.

I am planning on keeping the aero-spoiler. one thing I noticed is that no one noticed, or said anything rather, that I actually used 2 different cars, the one from the front is a 92, and the pic from the rear is my 87. Like it matters.

John.

I wish I still had the auction bookmarked.. But there was one a while back for a Firebird that was done up like a new(er) Ferrari... Looked pretty good, but then you look in the interior and you realize its not really an Italian. I'll see if I can find it somewhere...
