Help!

Hi guys new to the forum. I have a question regarding my car it's an 87 Camaro 305ci 4 barrel T-Tops 5 speed 70,000miles.No rust its never been in the snow and very rarely rain. It's been in the family for about 18 years now and has been passed down to me. As far as I know never been in an accident or had any body work done to it ever. I've been in a panic all week because this past weekend I took the car out and just had fun in it a few burnouts here and there and some fun cornering it pretty hard. My question is it started to rain so I put the t tops on and noticed the driver side t top sitting higher then the passenger side and I can hear wind rushing through it driving down the highway. My question is could I have tweaked the chassis in her cornering hard and doing a few burnouts here and there? causing the t tops to fit improperly?it's a muscle car and although I take extremely good care of her I get on it hard sometimes and it doesn't currently have sub frame connectors in it which ill be getting for it assuming I haven't damaged the body or chassis messing around I figured with a 305 in it no mods and not running slicks i wouldn't need sub frame connectors idk id be pretty heart broken if I bent her up...if it matters I'm running a new set of bfg radial t\a tires on it. Thanks a lot guys I appreciate any and all input on this.

Re: Help!

I have pics that i took last night trying to figure out how to upload them. The problem is at the front where the top meets the windshield the t top glass is higher than the windshield. i took the latches apart last night to look at the adjustments but i dont think that they are going to help me.even with the latch disengaged the glass sits higher where it meets the windshield.

Re: Help!

I stand to be corrected by guys with specific T-Top experience, but:

- It's unlikely that this condition was caused by one week-end of "fun".
- Any chassis twist severe enough to cause that kind of misalignment,
would manifest itself in more ways than that.
- Chassis twist more often manifests itself as slight cracks around the
rear roof panels, behind the door windows.

I would look for more subtle things with the t-tops & mounting issues.
Are both panels symmetriclly the same? Similar issues with mounting
hardware, and insulation.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Re: Help!

I would agree with the above. My best guess without being able to look more thoroughly at it is that something came loose in the latch mechanism. See if you can stick a dowel into the latch opening and knock it up or own with a hammer.
Check the top mounting pins and see if they have bent or broken.
Also check that the seal has not popped out of the channel.
It is possible to torque up a body, but usually involves hitting something or racing with an engine a lot more powerful than an lg4.

Be careful there. The latch is adjustable. No need to use a BFH.

Re: Help!

Yes, I know they are adjustable, hence why he should bang on them and see if they move. If they move, the adjustment came loose. Perhaps I should say " tap" with a hammer. I suggested this to see if they had loosened up before pulling the trim pieces to get to the adjustment.
