Fire extinguisher inside car

Have you ever seen those older cars (usually pro street / drag cars) with a fire extinguisher mounted inside their vehicle? Well, I thought about doing that to my Camaro... not that it would have any effect, but I like the way it looks.

I am thinking of mounting it between the rear seats on the "hump." My question is, what is below that, and would it even be possible to put a mounting bracket there for the fire extinguisher?

The fuel tank is below the hump. I've never tried to mount anything there before, because I'm not sure how much space is between the hump and the top of the fuel tank, maybe somebody else knows if it's safe.

Damn, nevermind. For some reason I got to thinking you meant the hump BEHIND the rear seats There shouldn't be any problem mounting it between the seats.

That's where I was going to mount mine, until I realized that it would interfere with the back seat when it was folded down. Subsequently, mine sits on the floor now. One of these days I'll get hit, the fire extinguisher will slam into the seat frame and explode, coating the inside of the car with extinguisher juice and saving my life as the car fills up with fire.

I thought the same thing about the back seat, Jim. Still, couldn't a quick-disconnect be made so the seat could go down... maybe have a special type of latch to remove the mounting bracket so there's no obstructions?

Hmm, maybe my car would be a bit safer with the extinguisher

If I am not mistaken isnt that you drive shaft under that hump? If you put some sheet metal screws in there that should cause no problem. I think its a good idea to have a fire extinguisher in your car.

>if like me you notice when you put the light bulb in you hatch area and it starts smoking, WTF.

>if you are poping off firecrackers and you happen to start a fire

>if you just want to spray you freind with it, thats always fun.

>if you have money to waste go into a vacant apartment spray the whole thing in one room
open the window (in the room you cant see you hand infront of your face, cool) go out side and it look like the aprartment is on fire. (this is not recomended but funny)

>over all do it, get one there are many reasons to

I mounted mine to the panel that covers the spare tire in the hatch. I bought a marine-type with brackets. Not only could you save your own car/life, you may be able to help someone else!
