Gauges

Would like to replace all the gauges in whatever F-body i eventually decide to purchase....All Gauges will be Autometer Phantom Series, anyone do this before? Hints/tips?

you have any more pics of this? Maybe a write up on it or anything? What did you use for the new gauge housing? Ect, ect, ect...

I want to do something similar. I want the 5" speedo, but I want a silver tach with a shift light on the dash. I want to put oil, H2O, fuel level, and volts in the right side of the cluster, where valu8or has his tach. I would then put the turn signal, and high beam indicators in the middle. Like this:

I also liked that one, however the four lower gauges would not fit into the existing dash opening and I did not want to bastardize the whole dash. That was version number 6 and the one in the car is version 22. I utilized abs plastic from a local plastic supplier. I looks exactly like the plastic already in the car and was pretty cheap (I think $25 or so for a 4' x 8' sheet) after I finally found a supplier to sell it to me. The good thing about this is that I can put the old dash back in at anytime with very little effort. The bad thing is the total cost for the gauges and sensors needs was about $700. Oh well, just throw good money after bad into this damn thing. hahaha

I just put phantom guages in my car.
I have 5 inch tach and speedo, and 2 1/16 fuel, volts,oil press, water temp,and fuel pressure. I have the fuel level and pressure on the a pillar in a pod. I have the tach and speedo in the origional location with the volt meter between them. I didn't like having the oil pressure and water temp under the tach and speedo so I removed the cigarette lighter and the defroster switch and made a plate to cover the opening. Then I mounted the water and oil pressue guages in that spot. I think that it looks pretty good. The most important guages are easily visiable and not covered by the steering wheel. Sorry no pics yet.
And yes the conversion was expensive around 600 dollars for the guages.

Yeah, the cost gets me too. I had added up about $665 for the gauges. I am still trying to justify the cost as a X-mas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New Years present to me!! I like the looks of un4given's idea, but the steering wheel would get in the way. I would also like the look of the tach in the dash, but I just can't get over the race car look of the tach on the dash. But then again I really don't want to put a hole in my perfect upper dash. Oh well, I've got nothing but time and paper.
