Whats the best way to get in your car when you lock your keys in there?

I had to break my hatch lock because nothing else worked for me.

>tried a slim jim, hanger, dremel.

>anyone know where to grab the lock with a slim jim?

Ok--I used to lock my keys in my car all the time!! I slid the slim jim down near the door handle(side close to fender) and slid it down--pushing the rod down--worked every time!! Or once I locked them in and a kid pulled out my window (t-tops)and slid his arm down and unlocked it--I thought the window was going to pop!! Amazing that it didn't! always heard that you could do that!
If you do that make sure you have a skinny arm!

Man I would be scared to do that to my window. But At the time I was so angry I was about to just break the window haha. Yeah I do that search.

Anything more on that slim jim on where you put it, bend it or what ever you have to do to get it in the right spot push it down. (eg. one inch to the right of the keyhole?)

HideA-Key. find a good place under your car to stick it then I put a big piece of black tape over it just to be safe and hide a little better. To many calls to family to bring extra set to me. Or you can keep exta door key in wallet.

found in Readers Digest several years ago:

A lady locked her keys in her car, so she happened to flag down a Police officer. He gets out, sizes up the situation, whips out a slim-jim (Illegal in Michigan mind you) and pops open her door.

With great amazement and relief, she thanks him and asks, "is there a small purse sized version of that I could buy somewhere?" Without a beat, he replied, "Its called a key."

Buy one of those magnetic key boxes; crawl under the back end of your car and stick the magnetic box up under there somewhere it won't easy shake loose.
I have used mine many times, the box has never come loose. When you depend on yourself, you have to think of every possibility
Oh, the car thief just pulled my window out a little and stick their arm in!!!

I got a 9ft pc. of 1/4" tubing from work. I slid it behind the drivers door to the pass. side lock button. It worked. I still have the tube in the garage in case I have an attack again!!

I used to work for the highway dept years ago--do you know how many of those magnetic key boxes I used to find laying on the shoulder?? Too many!!
It's been a few weeks since I've had to pop my lock--but I'll be going home Sat night--so I'll pay close attention this time!!
Also if you have t-tops and you don't usually lock them--you could stick your fingers between the glass and top-pull on the latch!! desperate times call for desperate measures!!
Once I locked my keys in my Bird at work--I was so pissed-I was there 45 mins- I pulled too hard and broke the inside of the door handle(inside the door itself) Wasn't able to open the door from the outside!! Sometimes I have that lunatic strength!!

When i (don't laugh) locked my keys in my car, while it was running, i grabed a couple of guys from work, 1. ex-CIA Agent 2. cambodian imagrent.

we went out to my car, the cia guy had a lock gun, the cambodian had 4feet of thick wire. guess who opened it first

the cambodian, he just slid the wire in from the back side of the drivers window, and slid the lock mech on the drivers door, took him about 30 Sec.

I usually pull back the window from the top (driver or passenger) back enough to reach and unlock the door. It's better and quicker with two people; one uses both hands to pull back as the other unlocks. All in under 10 seconds.....without breaking anything.

slid a meter stick (must be a meter stick, a yard stick is too short) in through the top of the window and hit the hatch realease button on the console. Takes me about 15 seconds.

Okay, here's the slim jim approach. I'm kind of uneasy about posting this but I guess it's pretty damn common knowledge for anyone proficient with a slim jim.

Take the slim jim and slid it right in between the door handle and the lock(along the glass). It may take a couple of tries to get it right but if you push it down far enough you'll see the door handle start to raise(outside one). When it does raise just hit down on the slim jim quickly and it should pop right open.

If you have a power trunk, a big magnet over the release part on the rear decklid will pop it too.

I've ALWAYS safty-wired a key under the car somewhere. I've NEVER been "locked out". As mentioned before, those boxes are all over the place, just never on the car somewhere! Just pick a place where someone would not be able to get to a key in 2 seconds-you'll be ok then. Being a female-I also carry a purse and put a key in an inside pockety in the purse. 2 problems: You can be in a hurry and lock purse in car as well - and - You're not a girl !

I used to be an unlock tech for Pop A Lock, I would sugest take a spare key and tie it up under the rear bumper with a wire tie. It is out of sight, and will not come off like a magnetic box.(just dont tell anyone it is there!)That is what I told the guy that I had to "rescue" over a dozen times. Never heard from him again!

Just my two cents

the easiest thing I found to do is to just push the t top handle and take the T off.

I actually locked my keys in my car yesterday, LOL, Man that really sucked cause it was at school too!

Luckily though I keep an extra key in my wallet, which kinda comes in handy!

I have a special "S" shaped heavy coat hanger. Slide into the drivers side window, twist it around and it pops the drivers side lock button...heavy heavy *** hanger though. All these tricks are cute for getting your keys out, but if you just lost your keys, and you have an alarm, you're still screwed.

Our t-tops would pop out first before breaking. I dont know if this is a good thing or bad. The way I know is because I was pushing my primer bandit down the road and pop there went the t-top. This happened three times.

I've heard you can just unscrew your antannae and slide it in from the side of the window and push the lever to unlock it. Doesn't sound too hard. I usually hide a key in one of those magnetic hide a key things and crawl under my car and duct tape it to something. WORKS FOR ME!

You can hide your key in the engine compartment. At least on my car, I can crawl under the nose and pop the hood. That way, there is more stuff under there to hide your key in. Less likely to fall out. I don't know about anyone elses cars, but I can do that on mine.
