Best place to mount a 5in. autometer tach in a 91 Z-28??

Best place to mount a 5in. autometer tach in a 91 Z-28??
Where could I put it that will be stable enough not to break any plastic parts?

I am planning on putting mine on the dash. There are those screws on the bottom side. If the hole is drilled all the way through the dash, this could be a good mounting point. THe down side is you will have a hole in your dash, but it will be covered.

Yeah, I mounted my 5 in. carbon fiber tach in the same place as zupman except I mounted it so that the bottom of the tach is flush and resting on the dash for more support.

TPI383 - did you mount it to the side of the instrument cluster part of the dash or did you put it on the under side of the center AC vents? To all - nice pics, please keep them comin' !! I may sell my tach to get the Autometer LUNAR SERIES tach, it's pretty bad-*** !! In a few weeks, I'll have new pics of my car to post if anyone is interested! It's taken me 2 years so far to completely restore this car...and it's immaculate!

neither... Its mounted to the top of the A/C controls/Console as far left as possable.
Ill rescann the picture or take a better one.

To all - Would the underside of the center AC vents be able to support the tach without cracking the dash - due to weight if you hit a bump? Also, has anyone seen the lunar series autometer tachs? It looks like they have the "indiglo back-lighting"? It should only be a couple more months before they release them to the public!!

Mine is mounted uder the two center dash vents and I haven't had any problems with the dash cracking. It's been there for 5 or 6 years.

Heres my setup. I used bolts to hold in in place for better support. Dont mind the interior being ripped apart im waitin for my new carpet from www.acccmats.com should be here on wensday whooohoooo!!!!

I used nuts and bolts and about a 2 x 2 piece of aluminum on the inside of the vents for a little extra bracing.

i actually took a piece a piece of Luan (sp?) (another words really thin plywood) and cut it to fit inside the pillar cover. It serves its purpose, although i imagine not as well as metal would.

Here's mine, I have poly bushings throughout so it rides really rough on bumps & I haven't had any problems with where it's mounted.

jucinGTA, i was thinking about mounting my tach where you have yours, but decided to put it on the left side, in front of the vent hanging off the dash next to the dash light switch, this way, it will be out of the way and wont attract to much attention, like 2 flowmasters screaming at 6 grand wouldnt attract any attention. your interior looks really good.
