I think they are the same for each year. not 100% sure though. I don't know what mine came out of, it wasn't in a car when I picked it up at the junkyard, but they had a bunch of Camaro's,some complete, some cut in half, etc.... so I assuming it came from on of them, and it looks just like a 97+ trans am console.

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure the camaro and firebird consoles in the 4th gens aren't different like they are in the 3rd gens. Usually when I'm in a 4th gen, I'm not paying too much attention to the console. Firebretha, I did check out your page--nice car, nice website, and helpful tips on console installation.

Will a 4th Gen automatic fit and match up in a 3rd Gen auto or do you have to use a 4th Gen manual console in a 3rd Gen? Noticed that most of the swaps have been manual 4th gens into 3rd gens.

An auto console can be put with certain modifications. The manual is so much easier to install.

The console base is the same for Auto and manual. The plate is the only difference.
I bought an Auto console and bought a used 6 speed plate with shifter boot from a guy on LS1.com, a lot of people are doing the 6 speed to Auto swap, since it can make the car faster for drag racing.

If you modify an auto plate, I'll let you know that it is going to be a lot of work since the shifter is about 5 inches or so towards the front of a 3rd gen car, so there is a lot of cutting and fabricating.
I had a pic of my auto plate installed in my 86 and I had the shifter coming out of the Ashtray of the auto console.

Which car came with the black center console? I know 4th gens have a black and a gray color console. Which color went to which car? I am still very confused on that point. I have an 87 Camaro and I want to put the console in but I want the black on not the gray one. I just don’t know which car had the black one.
