The underbody of rust... what can I do?
Alright guys I was putting my tranny in a few weeks ago and I could not belive the rust under my baby. A hole under the drivers floorboard was to the carpet and another hole in the spare tire compartment that you can see right through. I hope my spare doesen't drop out on the freeway! I'm having my neighbor (a body shop manager & weekend dragster) do the body work on my car with my help (Both doors, back and front passenger fenders, and front gfx need replaced or major work) and then spray it with Navy blue/ silver racing stripes.
While I'm at it I need to do something to my underbody. What would be the cheapest/easiest/fastest thing I can do to restore the underside. Rust repelant/stopper? New Floorboards? Welding???
Thanks guys,
Matt

For the floor - I assume you're gonna have to weld in some new floor pans. You don't want to take shortcuts here because the floor is a structural part of the car. Floor pans are about $150 per side.
For the tire well - I assume you can just cut out the rust and weld in some patches.

For cheap and easy, you can use a wire wheel or sander on the underbody. Then some rust converter/protector and a good coat of enamel will slow down the rusting. Long term fix is welding in new panels. There are aluminum panels on the market if you're interested in going that way.
