need help what kind of "glass" was used on T-Tops!
We have someone standing he owns a 91 Firebird with glass tops!
I am used to plastic tops in that year!!!!!
When did GM stopped glass and went on with plastic??
Was glass a option ..??
Are the plastic tops interchangeable to glass ones?? Does the frame of glass car allows plastic Tops??
OR , Is this guy fooling us??

 

if you look in the tech info it is there somewhere a lot of the plastic t tops got recalled and replaced with glass

Hrmm, I wish I could ditch the plastic ones on my 92 or at least get them replaced with new ones. When you look through them from in the car you see nothing but thousands of what look like hairline cracks or scratches that appear to be inside the plastic. Looks sort of like stress cracks from flexing in the heat.

The small stress cracks that appear inside the plastic is called crazing. I thought plastic tops were an option from 89+. The glass was standard & the Lexan (leximar) was optional.

I have cought wind about a recall on the plastic ones though.

Do you folks with the lexan t-tops find that they create TONS of wind noise? I bought a set of glass ones because they were driving me nuts!! Now the original ones sit safe and sound collecting dust.

 

whats this about the t-tops being recalled abd replaced? Mine are cracked but I havent found a set to replace them yet.

I have glass on mine and if they ever break I'm going to that junk yard where I saw about 15 sets that go on firebirds. You know if your are plastic I would pic up some from the old bone yard. The price has got to be better then the dealership.

I have the Lexan t-tops on my 92 Firebird. They don't seem to cause much wind noise on mine. I like how light they are compared to the glass ones. I don't think I'd switch to the glass ones if it ever came to it.
